Player Bio

Ashan Priyanjan is a busy middle-order batsman and a quality medium pacer and off-break bowler, who plays for Sri Lanka internationally. He captained Sri Lanka Under-19 during the World Cup in 2008, while he has been a regular Sri Lanka A representee and consistent performer domestically.

Born in Colombo, Priyanjan made his List-A debut for Bloomfield Cricket and Athletic Club, even before playing the Junior World Cup, in 2007. However, his First-Class and T20 debuts came after the multi-nation tournament in 2009. The all-rounder had to go through the grind for half a decade and got his due international debut in 2013.

The Colombo-born made a well-compiled 74 on his ODI debut when he lifted Sri Lanka after a top-order collapse against Pakistan at Abu Dhabi. He remained on the fringes of the ODI team for a year or so, but could not make any impactful performance. Priyanjan was then dropped from the national team in late 2014, to make a comeback for two games in 2015.

The all-rounder re-established himself for the national selection on the back of the 2016 Super Twenty20 Provincial Tournament, which led to his T20I debut. He made his debut in the shortest format against India on his home ground, where he scored an apprehensive 40*. He also toured Abu Dhabi to play a couple more T20I against Pakistan, later that year.

Priyanjan was again dropped from the national team to go back to the domestic circles. He was the leading run-scorer for Dambulla during the tournament, with 282 runs in three matches. The following month, he was also named in the domestic One-Day tournament, to top the run-scorers' charts for the team in that tournament. However, the former Sri Lanka U19 captain hasn’t been selected in the national team since 2017.
