A quick, very quick right-arm fast-bowler, Dhammika Prasad is a former Sri Lankan cricketer whose career was disrupted by some serious injuries. The tearaway pacer has - 25 Tests, 24 ODIs, and a single T20I; under his belt, however, he completed this feat in a time span of nine years.
Prasad started his promising career against Bangladesh in an ODI clash where the pacer bowled an inspirational spell of 2 for 29, but the youngster had a career-threatening back injury after playing a couple of more matches. The injury kept him away from cricket for six months, although he worked hard in domestic circles to make a comeback.
The speedster made a sensational Test debut against a formidable Indian lineup to take five wickets in the match. Despite being in and out of the ODI setup, Prasad regularly made some consistent performances in the longest format, including his match-winning 5 for 50 in the Leeds Test and his eight wickets against India at Colombo in 2015.
Prasad was peaking in 2015 where he took 41 Tests and finished among the top-10 wicket-takers of the year. However, it all went downhill from there as the pacer suffered a serious shoulder injury that required surgery and Prasad would never return.
He went back to the grind of domestic cricket to prove his mantle but his spark was gone. After trying for six long seasons, Sri Lanka decided to bid goodbye to international cricket in 2021.
