Amicable resolution leads to Chaminda Vaas withdrawing his resignation as bowling consultant
Chaminda Vaas the celebrated fast bowler of Sri Lanka has once again joined Sri Lanka Cricket’s position as Fast bowling consultant. This comes after he and SLC seemed to have amicably resolved a storm that saw Vaas resigning from his position of Sri Lanka’s fast bowling coach, just days after being appointed. The dramatic event occurred just when the Sri Lankan team was to leave for its West Indies tour. "Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to inform you that pursuant to a meeting that was held between Mr Chaminda Vaas and the Management Team of Sri Lanka Cricket, the matters which led to his resignation were amicably resolved," a media release from SLC said. The board further said that Vaas has been a great servant of Sri Lanka Cricket and it recognises his contribution. "Sri Lanka Cricket acknowledges the valuable services rendered by Mr Vaas to SLC and the significant contribution he has made to the sport as an iconic player and wishes him well," the media release read. This release is in total contrast with the last release which the board had released just when Vaas had stepped down from his earlier position. The board had alleged the great fast bowler of keeping the game ‘at ransom’. Vaas, 47, on his part, had tweeted after his resignation saying, "I made a humble request to SLC and they turned it down. That's all I can say at the moment. Justice will prevail!" Although Vaas is no longer the fast bowling coach, he would help the fast bowlers of the national team as well as those coming through the ranks. Sri Lankan team is currently in West Indies and having lost the T20i series 1-2 and ODI 0-3, have drawn the first Test and will be playing the second Test and the final game of the tour in two days’ time.

Sri Lanka bowling legend Chaminda Vaas has resigned from his position as Sri Lanka’s bowling coach citing a pay dispute with Sri Lanka Cricket. He was appointed to the position, three days ago. "It is particularly disheartening to note that in an economic climate such as the one facing the entire globe right now, Mr. Vaas has made this sudden and irresponsible move on the eve of the team's departure, based on personal monetary gain," SLC said in a press release post the fiasco. Vaas, who has 355 scalps in Tests and 400 in ODIs also resigned from his position as the SLC Academy coach. His resignation puts the team’s immediate future in jeopardy given SL have been forced to leave for West Indies without a bowling coach. The situation did not go down well with the board as they termed his decision equal to holding the game in Sri Lanka at ransom. "It is extremely disheartening that a legend such as Chaminda Vaas has resorted to holding the administration, the cricketers, and indeed the game at ransom, by handing in his resignation at the eleventh hour, citing the administration's refusal to accede to an unjustifiable demand for an increased (USD) remuneration...," SLC's statement read. The Sri Lankan team plays its first T20I game on March 3 at Antigua. Dasun Shanaka has been appointed as the skipper of the Sri Lanka T20I side. Chaminda Vaas appointed Sri Lanka's bowling coach
Former Sri Lanka fast bowler Chaminda Vaas has been appointed as the bowling coach of the side. The former left-arm pacer has been roped in for the upcoming tour of West Indies after David Saker resigned from the post. "Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to announce the appointment of Chaminda Vass as the National Team’s Fast Bowling Coach for the Tour of West Indies," SLC said in a statement. "His appointment comes following the resignation of David Sekar, who was the National Fast Bowling Coach. Vass currently serves as a ‘Fast Bowling Coach’ at the High-Performance Center of the SLC, working with Emerging and National Team Players," it added. During his illustrious career for Sri Lanka, Vass captured 355 test wickets from 111 matches and also 400 ODI wickets from 322 games. Sri Lanka will play three T20Is, three ODIs and two Tests scheduled to begin from March 3. The fixtures will take place in Antigua behind the closed doors.
