Player Bio

Gavin Griffiths, a right-arm fast-medium bowler, progressed through Lancashire age-group system. Born in Ormskirk, the pacer played at U-13, U-14, U-15, and U-17 levels for the club, before signing his contract with Leicestershire. Griffiths debuted for the Red Rose in 2015 during the second semi-final of NatWest t20 Blast where he bowled an impressive maiden over.

As a youngster, the Ormskirk-born was taunted to be calm and composed during his age-group days. After impressing the selectors in the Lancashire academy to get picked for the English U-19 team. After that, he returned to Lancashire to play domestic cricket. However, despite being a T20 specialist for his club, things didn’t go as per Griffiths’ plan. In 2016, the seamer was loaned out to Hampshire, and then Lancashire released him at the end of the season.

The association between the player and Leicestershire wasn’t even an instant hit. At Leicester, Griffiths got first nurtured by coach Paul Nixon and bowling coach Matt Mason to sharpen as a fast-bowler. He made his first-class debut against Loughborough MCCU in 2017 and the following season saw the Ormskirk-born grabbing 36 Championship wickets.

Since then, the pacer became a regular member in the Leicestershire line-up in all three formats. Griffiths has been progressing as a bowler as his heroics took the club to the quarter-final of NatWest t20 in 2020. The pacer, now being an experienced head, will be willing to take Leics to their first T20 glory, since 2011.
