Player Bio

A white-ball specialist and the highest wicket-taker in the Vitality Blast history, Max Thomas Charles Waller played through the Somerset age groups while he was studying in school. In his early schooling days, he was the skipper of the 1st XI and led his school team to numerous titles.

The sixth-most successful spinner of any kind, Waller made his debut for the club in 2009 and has since forged a career as a white-ball specialist. After his T20 Blast debut in 2009, he played 10 matches before going on to make his Championship debut.

In the next two years, Waller didn’t play any championship matches but became a talisman in limited-overs cricket for Somerset. In T20 he was the second-highest wicket-taker with 12 at an average of 24.17, with a best of 4 for 33. In addition to his economical bowling, he is also a gun fielder, displaying amazing athleticism on the field. He continued his impressive form taking 13 wickets for his side in the T20 Blast. Waller took a stunning catch at the mid-wicket boundary, removing AB de Villiers, which was voted as the 'Catch of the Year' in 2019.

A valuable member of the Vitality Blast team for over 12 years, Waller is not only capable of squeezing the batsmen with his tight spells but also builds pressure with his dynamic fielding. In 2020, Waller signed a contract extension with Somerset which will see him at the club till 2022.
