Player Bio

Touted as the future of English cricket by Michael Vaughan and Geoffrey Boycott, Alex Lees has not lived up to the hype that was built when Lees was still a youngster.

A left-handed technically sound batsman, Lees has played through various age groups before becoming the captain of his county team, Yorkshire at the age of 22.

Lees had a great start to his captaincy stint. Under his guidance, Yorkshire reached the finals of the domestic T20 competition, but his reign lasted only one year as then coach, Jason Gillespie quit his job and the new head coach, Andrew Gale wanted one captain across all formats of the game. Thus, Lees had to surrender his captaincy to Gary Ballance.

Lees had a great county season in 2017, accumulating more than 1,000 runs and playing crucial knocks under crunch situations.

A year later, Lees signed for Durham, penning down a three-year deal with the club.

An excellent player in the domestic circuit, Lees’s confidence was shaken after he was removed as the white ball captain of Yorkshire. However, slowly and steadily he has started to revive his career. Getting Yorkshire captaincy at such a young age showed his credential as a leader.
