Player Bio

A young dynamic all-rounder, Omaima Sohail was just 15 when she started playing for the Karachi U-19’s at the PCB National U-19 Championships and was a surprising addition to the central contract list offered by PCB in June 2020. However, those who have been following Pakistan’s domestic circuit closely would say that PCB’s decision is justice well served.

Sohail started her T20 career at the 2nd Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Women Cricket Tournament 2012/13. Playing for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Women, she was dismissed for a duck in her very first game. Two years later she made her List A debut in the Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah Women Cricket Championship Seniors 2014 conceding only 16 runs in 6 overs but didn’t get an opportunity to bat

Spending over five years in the domestic circuit, Sohail got her first chance to represent Pakistan in an ODI game against Bangladesh on October 8th, 2018. On her debut, the Karachi-born all-rounder got dismissed on a duck and didn’t even get to bowl in a horrific loss against Bangladesh Women. Her T20I debut came later in the same month against the mighty Aussies on October 28th, 2018. Against a brilliant Australian bowling lineup, Sohail scored 25 runs from just 23 deliveries and was the second-highest scorer in the Pakistani lineup.

The top-order batswoman showed some promise in her first two T20Is, posting scores of 25 and 43 against Australia, and was a crucial part of the Pakistani side that took part in the 2018 ICC Women’s World Cup. In June 2020, PCB announced central contracts to 17 female cricketers, and to everyone’s surprise, Sohail was added to the list after being a consistent member of the side in both limited-overs formats.
