Player Bio

Jason Smith is a prolific all-rounder in South Africa's domestic championships and represents Cape Cobras in the premier domestic tournament. An all-rounder, Smith is a top-order batsman who can also chip in with a handy right-arm medium pace option.

Born in Cape Town, was part of South Africa's squad for the 2014 ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup, which the Proteas won under Aiden Markram’s leadership. However, he was an unfortunate cricketer from the lot who didn’t graduate from the junior team to become senior international stars, unlike Markram and Kagiso Rabada.

He turns out for the University of the Western Cape, before representing Western Province. In 2017, Smith toured England with the ‘A’ side and then the home series against the visiting India 'A' team.

Over the years, the all-rounder has been instrumental with both bat and ball for his domestic teams, across all formats. In 2021, he single-handedly took Dolphins to the final of the T20 competition. He also started the FC series by scoring a hundred and followed it up with a half-century in Centurion against the Northerns Titans.

His performances were answered by the national selectors, as Smith was selected in the South Africa A side for the series against India A, in November-December 2021. Now he would look to showcase his prowess in the ‘A’ series to vie for a place in the senior squad before India's upcoming tour of the country.
