Player Bio

Keegan Petersen, also known as ‘KP’ is an aggressive right-handed middle-order batsman, who plays for the South Africa national team.

Keegan was the leading run scorer in the 3-day first class competition for the 2013/14 season, and he also notched up his highest first class score of 225* in the very same season. His performance was rewarded with the award of the three-day Cricketer of the Year.

Despite his impressive performance in the 2013 season, Petersen struggled with injuries in the following season, and could only play two first class matches.

The dashing batter enjoyed more game time in the 2015/16 season, but struggled to cement his place in the playing XI.

In the year 2018, Petersen was named in Northern’s Cape squad for the 2018 Africa T20 Cup, but it was in the 2018/19 four-day franchise series where he made his mark, amassing 923 runs in nine matches.

In December 2020, Petersen was named in South Africa’s Test squad for the series against Sri Lanka, but was later withdrawn from the squad after testing positive for Covid-19. He was again named in the Test squad for the series against Pakistan, but did not feature in any of the matches.

An aggressive player, Petersen has struggled a lot before making it to the South African Test squad. He is yet to make his debut, and will be hoping to get that one chance so that he can show his talent to the selectors.
