Raynard's Bio

A classy right-handed middle-order batter, Raynard van Tonder is a South African cricketer who plays for the Knights in domestic competitions.

He developed his cricketing skills while playing for Free State U-15 side and has also represented South Africa at the U-19 level.

The free-flowing batter was named as the South African skipper for the 2018 U-19 World Cup and he finished as the leading run-scorer for South Africa, with 348 runs under his belt. Following the conclusion of the tournament, ICC named van Tonder as the rising star of the Proteas squad.

In 2018, van Tonder rose to prominence when he slammed a majestic 250 not out against Gauteng in the 2018-19 CSA 3-Day Provincial Cup.

He was added to South Africa’s Test squad for their series against Sri Lanka in December 2020. However, van Tonder did not feature in the series and couldn’t fulfil his dream of making a Test debut for his nation.

In November 2021, Cricket South Africa announced their 14-member South Africa A squad for their upcoming series against touring India A side. To everyone’s surprise, Van Tonder was also included in the squad and he’ll look to make a mark in the upcoming series. It provides a perfect opportunity for the batter to cement his place in the senior team.
