Watch: USA, Umpire and Canada’s hurriedness to celebrate rob it of a famous win

In a bizarre turn of events, the United States of America beat arch-rivals Canada in a Super Over in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 Qualifier-Americas, taking place in Antigua and Barbuda. The match ended in a controversial way when the USA needed three to win from the last ball and the batter Ali Khan was unable to connect the ball to bat, he ran for a single, but Canadian wicketkeeper Hamza Tariq removed the bails, rolled the ball over to the umpire, which he did not collect. In an ideal condition, it should have been the end of the match with the USA losing by one run. But not in this case. Rusty Theron, the former South Africa international who was at the other end when Ali Khan was on strike, kept running and ran the second one, even as the entire Canadian team celebrated. The umpire did not object to it and rather declared it two legal runs as by the time that Canadians realised what was happening, the two batters were about to cross over for a third, which was averted by a sharp throw. In a game, if the bails are removed by the fiddler himself (not by throwing the ball onto the wicket), the ball is declared dead after it in most cases, but here it could either be called the experience of Theron, the hurriedness of Canada or simply a mistake by the umpire that all this was allowed to happen and Canada, who looked like a deserving winner, were forced to go to the Super Over. In the Super Over, Matharu, who had brought back Canada from dead to almost a win, was once again given the responsibility with the ball. But this time around the Americans were up to the task as first Steven Taylor hit two sixes and then Marshal finished with two fours to end the total at 22 at the end of the one over with two wides contributing as well. It was always going to be tough to chase 23 and as much as skipper Navneet Dhaliwal and Dillon Heyliger tried, Ian Holland was too accurate to be hit easily and the Canadians finished at 14-0 in the Super over, losing the game by 8 runs. Before the last ball drama, Jatinderpal Matharu, the Canadian pacer was to defend 12 off the last six balls against a settled Jaskarana Malhotra, who had recently achieved the feat of hitting six sixes in an over against PNG. On the first two balls, only one run was conceded and a settled Malhotra was also run out. Then on the next three balls drama transpired and after scoring eight runs, Karima Gore was adjudged LBW with the USA needing three of the last ball. Rest is now part of history. The match shouldn’t have come this close in the first place when the USA were reduced to 44-5 in the first 10 overs. A partnership of 42 runs was developed between Nisarg Patel and Malhotra. Then Malhotra partnered Gore for a 22 ball 45 runs and brought his team back in the game instantly. Earlier in the day, Canada scored 142 batting first after skipper Dhaliwal and Ravinderpal Singh remained unbeaten on 44 each to ride through the early breaks.

CPL 2021 | Pollard, Seifert onslaught & Ali Khan secure sweep over Tallawahs

CPL 2021 | Pollard, Seifert onslaught & Ali Khan secure sweep over Tallawahs

It was a tremendous bowling effort by Ali Khan, the US import of the Trinbago Knight Riders who registered career-best figures of 4-6 to bowl out Jamaica Tallawahs for a mere 92 and his team a sensational 75 run victory. With this win, the Knight Riders have now won both their league games against the Jamaica-based team in Caribbean Premier League 2021. The Jamaican chase never looked like going anywhere as they were tormented right from the start. They lost four of their top order batters with the team score reaching only 21 in the sixth over. What was even worse was that just as a partnership started developing between Tallawahs skipper Rivman Powell and Jason Mohammed, the spinners in Khary Pierre and Sunil Narine struck once each and got rid of the two batters. With Andre Russell and Carlos Brathwaite still batting and having seen the carnage by Kieron Pollard and Tim Seifert in the first innings, there was still hope that Tallawahs might just give it a go. But all those hopes were dashed when Narine struck for the second time in the day and brought an end to Russell’s misery who made only 1 run off the 11 balls that he faced. Before the fall of Russell, Brathwaite had been removed by Akeal Hosein. Only formalities remained and hence Ravi Rampaul, the leading wicket-taker in the tournament and Ali Khan, the Man of the Match came back to pick a wicket each and end the Tallawahs innings at 92, one of the lowest totals in CPL history. Earlier in the day, after winning the toss and sending Knight Riders to bat first, Tallawahs controlled most of the game up until the 17th over when calamity struck in the form of Pollard and Seifert. At 105-4 with only 16 balls to go, the Tallwahs were expecting nothing more than 34 at the max, that too with two new guys at the crease. However, what happened after that was pure joy for spectators, but devastation for Tallawahs. The duo of Pollard and Seifert hit Migael Pretorious for 12 runs of the remaining four balls of the 18th over, Russell for 21 runs in the 19th over and then again Pretorious for 29 runs in the 20th over. In total they scored 62 runs in the last 16 balls, taking the total to 167 in 20 overs.

CPL 2021 | GAW vs TKR, Preview: Clash of the titans await fans to start the Caribbean extravaganza

The Caribbean Premier League is finally here and what could be better than a Guyana Amazon Warriors vs Trinabago Knight Riders clash to start it with. It is like Manchester United vs Liverpool or Real Madrid vs Barcelona or in cricketing terms Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings of the CPL. The only difference however is that the Guyanese team has not been able to win even a single title so far, having appeared four times in the Final out of the eight seasons. To compensate for that though, they beat most of the teams at league stages including the Trinidad and Tobago team. However, the record has swung in favour of the Knight Riders recently, so much so that in the last 10 meetings the Knight Riders have won six games. Now, to get things in balance, the Warriors would be edging to get one past their biggest rivals in the inaugral match of another Covid restricted edition of the league. Guyana Amazon Warriors vs Trinbago Knight Riders: Details Match Number-01 Date and Time: August 26, 2021, 07:30 pm IST, 10:00 am Local, 02:00 pm GMT Venue: Warner Park Broadcast and Livestream: Star Sports Network and Fancode Pitch Report The pitch at Basseterre has generally proved high scoring as far as T20 is concerned. In 38 domestic T20 matches, the average score at the ground is 166 while in seven international T20 games, the runs have gone down with the average score being 136. However, the pitch has always favoured chasers with 23 times out of 38, the team winning batting second in the league games. Thus if a captain wins the toss, there would be no surprise if he chooses to bat second. Weather Forecast With 72% humidity, it would be very difficult conditions at 10 am in Basseterre. The temperature would be only 30 degrees, but BBC weather tells that it would feel like 41 degrees so imagine the toughness for players. However, one thing that is great for viewers is that there are fewer to no chances of rain. Team News Guyana Amazon Warriors The team would be looking to utilise the experience of the two Pakistanis in Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik to go with the aggression of Nicholas Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer in the batting. In the bowling department, they would again bank on the experience of Imran Tahir and mix it with the youth of Kevin Sinclair Romario Shepherd. Probable XI Brandon King, Chandrapaul Hemraj, Mohammad Hafeez, Shimron Hetmyer, Shoaib Malik, Nicholas Pooran (c) (wk), Anthony Bramble, Romario Shepherd, Kevin Sinclair, Imran Tahir, Naveen-ul-Haq Trinbago Knight Riders The Trinbago Knight Riders on their part would be looking to get on the road straight away. With the extra responsibility of vice-captain, Sunil Narine would be looking to contribute more with the bat while Kieron pollard would look to trust two New Zealanders in Tim Seifert and Colin Munro at the top with ever-reliable Lendl Simmons. In the bowling department, Isuru Udana is likely to play a key role along with new kid on the block Jayden Seales and Pakistan born USA player Ali Khan in the pace battery. For spin, Narine would have the company of either Akeal Hossein or Khary Pierre. Report: Kolkata Knight Riders likely to replace injured Ali Khan with Tim Seifert

USA pacer Ali Khan’s Indian Premier League stint has ended without a game due to a side-strain which he was carrying since the Caribbean Premier League. Khan was roped in by Kolkata Knight Riders as a replacement for England fast bowler Harry Gurney, who didn’t take part in the tournament due to scheduled shoulder surgery. The KKR camp always maintained that Khan was recovering well and even trained with the rest of the team. KKR’s chief executive Venky Mysore had said that he was optimistic about Khan’s recovery. "While we are disappointed that he injured himself, KKR always does everything to take care of its players and therefore have asked him to stay on and are helping him with his recovery and rehab. Hopefully, he will recover fast," Mysore told ESPNcricinfo. According to a report by the same media house, New Zealand wicket-keeper batsman Tim Seifert is set to replace the injured pacer. The Kiwi is a white-ball specialist, who has represented Blackcaps in three ODIs and 24 T20Is. Seifert had an ordinary CPL, where he made 133 runs in nine innings at a strike rate of 109.91 Kolkata is currently at the fourth spot with eight points from as many games. Recently, Dinesh Karthik and Eoin Morgan ‘swapped roles’, which meant Morgan would be leading the pack in the remainder of the IPL season. His captaincy stint got off to a poor start as the side faced a heavy defeat in the hands of Mumbai Indians.

IPL 2020: KKR pacer Ali Khan ruled out due to injury

Unfortunately, Khan has since been injured and will miss the rest of the IPL 2020 season," an official IPL statement said. Khan became the first cricketer from the USA to be a part of an IPL franchise. He was a part of the victorious CPL side Trinbago Knight Riders. The pacer scalped eight wickets in as many games at an economy of 7.43. TKR have four titles to their name in CPL. Dinesh Karthik’s side are currently at the fourth position with four points.
