Player Bio

Hard-hitting wicket-keeping batsman Tom Banton fared well for Somerset in the Vitality T20 blast in England and the ninth edition of the Big Bash League (BBL) in Australia. Getting down the track to pacers, lap and reverse lap shots are some of the audacious shots that make him identical to Jos Buttler. Banton has been rated highly by English cricket pundits for his stroke-making abilities and the fact that he is a good wicket-keeper adds another dimension in his favour.

Hailing from Buckinghamshire, Banton is a product of the U19 World Cup as he captained the English side in the 2018 edition. Banton announced himself on the world stage with a couple of dazzling knocks in the multi-nation tournament. The following summer, the youngster was picked by Somerset for the T20 Blast and made his List-A & Championship debuts in 2018.

The 2019 season was a revelation for the hard-hitting who worked on his batting technique under the wise mentorship of Marcus Trescothick. Those minor modifications helped Banton to score 454 runs during his county’s Royal London winning campaign. Later that season, the dasher stockpiled 549 more in the Vitality Blast, which led to an England call-up for Banton at the end of the season.

The wicket-keeping batsman made his T20 debut for England in late 2019 against New Zealand and received the ODI cap against South Africa, in the following month. Banton hasn't tasted the flavour of the highest level much, but he has shown his calibre with staggering half-centuries against Pakistan and Ireland.

Over the years, the Chiltern-born has represented a couple of franchises across the globe. Ahead of the 2019 edition, Brisbane Heat bagged the Englishman until the end of BBL 11. KKR also bought his services for INR 1 crore for the IPL 2020 with a view that the English lad can be a like-for-like replacement for Chris Lynn, who was released before the auction. However, ahead of the 14th edition Banton only said that he doesn’t want to warm the bench, which led to his release from the franchise.

In 2021, Banton was picked by Welsh Fire for the inaugural season of 'The Hundred'. His dynamic batting style and fearless approach to the game make the hard-hitting wicket-keeping batsman a must-have in a 100-ball-like format.
