Player Bio

One of the promising right-arm seamer for Bengal, Ishan Porel has steadily come up to the ranks from U-19 to domestic and then for Indian A.  A tall, lanky figure, Porel isn’t as quick as other seamers in India but his accuracy and extra bounce has troubled the batsmen in the past.

Ishan made the headlines when he was signed by the Punjab Kings for his base price of INR 20 lakhs ahead of the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League as a backup for their ace speedster Mohammed Shami.

Porel, who was with the PKBS in the IPL, didn’t get to play a game but his red ball performance in Ranji and Duleep Trophy along with impressive A tour of New Zealand last season prompted his selection as one of the four net bowlers for the 2020-21 Border Gavaskar Trophy. His injury saga continued as he was sent back from Australia mid-tour after sustaining a hamstring injury.

Ishan picked up 13 wickets from five matches for Bengal in the T20 tournament, but the bigger takeaway was his hamstring, which did not give up. Ishan emerged as the fifth-highest wicket-taker in the tournament.

Given the recent string of young fast bowlers to have debuted for India, Ishan would consider himself a tad unlucky as every fast-bowler who travelled to Australia in November 2020 had played on the tour, barring Kartik Tyagi, the only remaining fit net bowler. Still just 22 years old, Ishan would be hoping to break into the Punjab Kings starting lineup and subsequently for the national team in the upcoming years.
