A stylish right-handed opener with all the shots in his book, Josh Philippe is a professional Australian cricketer who is also known for his wicket-keeping skills. Prior to his T20 debut in the Big Bash League of 2017-18, he scored a massive 88 runs from 92 balls opening the batting against England in a warm-up match.
The young gun made his First-Class debut for Western Australia in early 2018 in the 2017-18 Sheffield Shield season and had other glories in his bag including the Player of the Match award when the Prime Minister’s XI beat the touring South Africans on 31 October 2018, he was the match top-scorer with 57.
Josh was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of the 2020 Indian Premier League at a base price of INR 20 lakhs but he shot to fame in the Big Bash League after leading the Sydney Sixers to the BBL title in 2021. Since moving from the Perth Scorchers in 2018, Philippe has scored 791 runs at a strike rate a fraction under 140 which made him a fan favourite among the sixers supporters. Josh stockpiled over 500 runs in the recently concluded BBL which also earned him the Player of the Tournament award.
On the back of his BBL exploits, the young prospect made his international debut against the Kiwis on February 22nd, 2021 but hasn’t made the most of the opportunities presented to him at the international level.
His dynamic, pure ball-striking is not only effective on the scoreboard but scintillating to watch, with a 360-degree range of shots at his disposal, he will be a crucial cog for the Baggy Green in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
