Player Bio

A ridiculously powerful hitter of the white ball, Azam Khan is the son of legendary wicket-keeper batsman, Moin Khan, and has been making headlines in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), since making his debut for Quetta Gladiators in March 2019.

The 22-year-old, who came into the limelight during the last season of PSL, has impressed one and all with his clean hitting in domestic cricket and T20 leagues. Azam also plays for the Sindh province in Pakistan's domestic cricket and for Pakistan Television in the Quaid-e-Azam one-day tournament.

The Karachi-born doesn't boast an impressive record as he has just 50 runs in the two First-Class innings that he has played so far in his career. However, itโ€™s the strike rate in the shortest format makes him a destructive middle-order batsman.

Azam always had fitness-related issues and has often been criticized for his weight. He lost a fair amount of weight since making his debut in the PSL. He took the 2020 edition by the storm, smacking 59 runs off 33 balls in the curtain-raiser against Islamabad United, followed by his swift knock of 46 runs off 30 balls against Karachi Kings.

No young cricketer deserves the level of ridicule Azam was subjected to when he made his T20 debut. But in coming out the other side, the 22-year old has shown that beneath an exterior he is still working to get into tip-top shape. He has certainly emerged as the brightest prospect, who can be picked by PCB in the national side in the near future with T20 World Cup slated to be held in UAE starting in October.
