A right-arm medium-pace bowler who loves to hit the deck hard, Nyauchi has been a late bloomer to international cricket who currently plays for the Zimbabwe national team and for the Mountaineers in the domestic circuit.
Nyauchi made his first-class and List-A debut in the 2014/15 domestic campaign for the Mountaineers and first rose to prominence in the 2017/18 Logan Cup. The pacer took 31 wickets in eight matches and caught the attention of the selectors.
The selectors kept a close eye on him and eventually Nyauchi was rewarded with his first-ever international call-up in the Test series against SrI Lanka in 2020. The fast bowler made his debut in the first Test match and was the pick of the Zimbabwean bowlers in the first innings, taking 3 wickets and giving away 69 runs. While the other bowlers kept leaking runs, Nyauchu kept it tight from one end and picked wickets at crucial junctures.
The Harare-born pacer was included in the Zimbabwe Test squad for the series against Afghanistan in March 2021. In the first Test match in Abu Dhabi, Nyauchi was the star with the ball, picking up 6 wickets in the match and hitting the deck hard to trouble the Afghan batters. As a result of his performance, Zimbabwe won the Test match convincingly.
Another promising young pacer coming through the Zimbabwe youth setup, Nyauchi has had a decent start to his international career. It’s the responsibility of the bowling coach to work hard with him in the nets and prepare Nyauchi for the long international tours that lie ahead for Zimbabwe cricket.
