Matthew Carter

Matthew Carter is an English professional cricketer who plays for Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club. The old-school offie has a tall classical action with flight, bite, and composure. 

Making his debut for Nottinghamshire in 2015, Carter bagged 7 for 56 against Somerset on the Taunton pitch. The tweaker stormed into the headlines by claiming the best figures by a Nottinghamshire spinner, since Jack Walsh in 1938. 

The promising spinner failed to live up to expectations in the subsequent season. The following year turned out to be another modest year in terms of performance but Carter stayed at Trent Bridge after securing a one-year contract extension.

In 2018, the spinner made his List-A debut against Warwickshire during the Royal London Cup, where Carter had another dream debut after taking 4 for 40. The Lincoln-born tasted quite a success in his maiden One-Day season, taking 14 wickets at 19.78. 

Subsequently, the Lincolnshire-based cricketer made his T20 debut at Leeds and had a decent performance during the T20 Blast of 2018. From there on, the off-spinner became a rising star for his county. He returned to prominence in the game's longest form in 2020 and hasn’t dropped a beat since. 

In 2021, Carter was drafted into the Trent Rockets’ squad for the inaugural edition of 'The Hundred'. The lanky spinner is due to take the load of the Rockets, and later, of his national side.
