Player Bio

Samit Rohit Patel is a well-known commodity from the English cricketers of his generation. A hard-hitting lower-order batter and a brilliant left-arm spinner, Samit has been donning English colors since the Under-15, Under-17, and Under-19 days, before graduating to the senior team in 2008.

Samit started playing cricket when he was in Eastwood Comprehensive School and later played for Worksop College in Nottinghamshire. He was awarded the Test Match Special Young Cricketer of the Year award in 2000 for his extraordinary performance in the Under-15 World Cup.

A Nottinghamshire contract was never too far for a talent like Samit as he made his Second XI debut and grew up the ranks at a rapid pace to be included in the main side at the age of 16. Since his debut, the Leicester-born has been a regular in domestic circles.

Samit first came into the international scene in 2008 when he made his ODI debut against Scotland and then went on to play 11 back-to-back 50-over matches. The allrounder was also a part of the 30-player preliminary squad for the 2009 World T20 but failed to make it into the final 15 due to fitness problems.

The spinner-bowling allrounder came back into the English setup in 2011 as the 50-over World Cup was supposed to be hosted in the sub-continent. Samit made his ODI debut just before the ICC event but yet again failed to prove his fitness. The allrounder got his Test cap on the tour of Sri Lanka in 2012. However, he was in and out of the side soon after that and due to his under-par fitness standards, the selectors axed Samit out of the international circuit.

Samit has been a blockbuster performer for Nottinghamshire across all formats. After making a huge mark in the white-ball tournament during the 2017 season, he earned the prestigious PCA Most Valuable Player award to become the first Notts player to win the honour after 30 years.

Over the years, the allrounder has represented various clubs in the top leagues such as the Big Bash League, Pakistan Super League, Lanka Premier League, and Bangladesh Premier League. The latest addition to the list is going to be the Hundred as Samit has been signed by Trent Rockets for the inaugural edition of the tournament.
