Player Bio

Worcester pace ace, Josh Tongue is a professional English cricketer and son of a coach, Phil. He’s been part of the set-up at New Road since he was just six years old, and was already being talked up in the local press in 2008 when he was just 10. At the time, he was as much a batsman as a bowler, but as time has gone by, Tongue has developed into one of the leading fast bowling prospects in the country.

At the age of just 20, Tongue was called into the England Lions squad in October 2017 after just one full season of senior cricket. He made his first-class debut at the start of 2016 Championship season in April against Oxford MCCU, but a stress fracture derailed his season. However, he made a comeback and ended up with 47 wickets as Worcestershire clinched the Division Two title.

A nerve tissue injury followed by a side strain restricted Tongue to four Championship appearances in 2018 although he still picked up 17 wickets. But the Redditch-born player has been bowling with no ill-effects since his return during the post covid era and has been on the radar of national selection as well. A knack for picking wickets at crucial times, the young gun would be hoping to regain his true form in the ongoing Championship season.
