Player Bio

An aggressive batting all-rounder, Wesley Madhevere is a professional cricketer for the Zimbabwe national team.

The Harare-born all-rounder made his List-A debut for Mashonaland in the 2019/20 Pro50 Championship. Prior to the tournament, he was named as the vice-captain for the 2020 Under-19 World Cup.

Madhevere was also part of the 2016 and 2018 U-19 World Cup squads. Post the 2018 World Cup, the International Cricket Council(ICC) named him as the rising star of the tournament.

The teenage sensation finally made his Zimbabwe debut in the ODI series against Bangladesh in 2020. Despite the fact that Zimbabwe lost that match by 169 runs, Madhevere impressed everyone with his composure. The right-handed batsman top-scored for Zimbabwe, with 35 runs, and also took a solitary wicket in the match to announce his arrival at the international stage.

Madhevere made his debut in the T20 leg of that series, but unlike his ODI debut, he was relatively unimpressive in the T20I game.

In the first T20I match of the five-match series against Pakistan in 2020, the youngster was the lone warrior standing for his side, bolstering his reputation with an unbeaten 48-ball 70 to give his side 156 to defend.

The talented all-rounder was in the Test squad to face the Afghans in March 2021. He finally made his debut in the first Test match of the series but had a nightmarish start to his Test career after being dismissed on a duck.

Zimbabwe are in desperate need of an all-rounder who can provide solidity with both bat and the bowl. In the short span of time, Madhevere has shown that he can be the man for this job but he has to be nurtured properly so that the youngster is ready for future challenges that lie ahead.
