Player Bio

A classy top-order batsman, Milton Shumba is a professional cricketer for the Zimbabwe national team and has also represented Eastern Province and Rising Stars in the domestic circuit.

Shumba made his first-class debut for Rising Stars in the 2017/18 Logan Cup and jotted impressive numbers in his debut season. As a result, the Chitungwiza-born batsman was drafted into the Zimbabwe squad for the 2018 Under-19 World Cup. He played six matches and scored 132 runs at an average of 44.00.

In the 2020 edition of the Under-19 World Cup, Shumba amassed 205 runs at an average of 41.00 and also scalped 4 wickets in the tournament.

The youngster was fast-tracked after the 2020 World Cup and was quickly drafted into the Zimbabwe squad for the T20I series against Pakistan in the same year. He made his debut in the third T20I, and could only add 11 runs under his kitty before being stumped by Mohammad Rizwan.

The southpaw was included in the T20I squad against Afghanistan in March 2021. Instead of playing at his usual position at the top of the order, Shumba was asked to bat at number four, and he struggled to time the ball properly and was eventually dismissed for 8 runs.

An elegant batsman, Shumba has struggled to cement his place in the national side ever since his debut in 2020. The promise that he once showed at the Under-19 level has faded away. Still a young prodigy, he has time to refine his batting skills and make a grand comeback in the shorter formats for the Zimbabwe national team.
