Player Bio

Figy John, or Jonathan Figy, is an Emirati youngster who made his international debut in 2019, however, his success at the highest level was always destined to be. He is also a former UAE U-19 cricketer and the first from the country to score a ton in the tournament.

Born in Dubai to Indian parents, Fidy first announced himself when he played for Abu Dhabi Indian School and Zayed Cricket Academy, during his school days. In 2016, he scored a remarkable 1,996 runs in 34 matches, which included eight centuries, five of them in the T20 format.

In 2017, the teenager migrated to the United Kingdom to attend Winchester College on a cricket scholarship and led the Collegeā€™s team for two seasons. He also studied and played for Leeds University in 2019.

He was then touted as the best schoolboy cricketer in the entire UAE. The youngster took major strides and a national call up was not far. In December 2019, an 18-year-old Fidy was named in the ODI squad for the Tri-Series, against Scotland and Namibia, to play two games.

The following year, Fidy was named in the UAEā€™s U-19 team for the 2020 Junior World Cup. In the global tournament, he was UAEā€™s first century-maker in the history of the U19 tournament and ended the tournament with 197 runs in six matches, which were the highest by a UAE player.

If Emirates Cricket Board grooms Figy well then he can become one of the best cricketers in the nation.
