It is not often that Australia comes to Bangladesh on tour to play bilateral series. Well, the last it happened was way back in 2017 and at that time only a two-match Test series was played in which Bangladesh registered a historic first-ever Test win against the Kangaroos. For a limited-overs series between the two sides, one has to go way back to 2011 when Australia toured Bangladesh and won the ODI series 3-0. In T20Is, well, this is the first-ever bilateral series between the two sides in a format that is now almost two decades old. However late it might have been, but Bangladesh wouldn’t be complaining as they are getting the ideal preparation for the T20 World Cup scheduled for October this year in UAE. Bangladesh's depleted squad While Bangladesh might not be complaining after getting to play against Australia, but the side has been depleted of its main resources as its experienced players in Mushfiqur Rahim, Tamim Iqbal and Liton Das will miss the series due to various reasons. ZIM vs BAN | 20-year-old Shamim Patwari holds nerves to seal high scoring series decider for Tigers
It was an incredible display of nerves from 20-year-old Shamim Hossain Patwari, playing only his second international game, as he scored an unbeaten 31 off 15 balls to seal the game for the visitors and also win the T20I series 2-1. Along with Shamim, Soumya Sarkar and skipper Mahmudullah too made valuable contributions with the bat to chase down a stiff target of 194 in 20 overs. Joining at 150-4 in the 16th over with only 27 balls left and 44 runs to get, Shamim was slow to start and gave the strike to senior partner and skipper Mahmuddulah. However, he was at full flow in the 18th over. With Bangladesh needing 27 from the last three, Shamimn hit DionMyers for three fours in a row on the last three balls of the 18th cover, having taken a double on the third delivery. It was game-changing stuff as after that over, it came down to almost run a ball with 13 needed from two overs and the Tigers completed the formalities with much ease, winning the game by five wickets with four balls to spare. The chase of such a huge target wasn’t started in a great manner by Bangladesh as Mohammad Naim was out for three in the third over with the team score having reached only 20. The experience of Shakib Al Hasan and Sarkar then came into play as they added 50 off 32 balls to lay the foundation for batters to follow. The 28-year-old Sarkar then added 63 with Mahmudullah for the third wicket, reaching his second fifty of the series. He fell for 68 trying to accelerate the innings when the team score was 133 and the Tigers needed 61 to win from 39 balls. Soon enough Afif Hossain, who had been performing well on this tour, too got out and it all came down to young Shamim and skipper Mahmudullah. Earlier in the day, after winning the toss a third time in a row, Zimbabwe skipper Sikandar Raza once again decided to bat first. The openers Tadiwanashe Marumani and Wessley Madhever gave a flying start to the team adding 63 in the first six overs of the game. As was the case in the first two matches, Regis Chaklabva was once again in form, hitting 48 off just 22 balls before being caught in the deep trying one shot too many. Madhevere hit his second half-century of the series and third in the last five T20Is. However, once these two along with skipperRaza departed, the runs became slow to come by. It then took a great effort from left-hander Ryan Burl who hit unbeaten 31 off 15 balls to take his team past 190. Sarkar, for his 68 and a wicket in this game was chosen Man of the Match while for his overall performance of 126 runs and three wickets in three games, he was also awarded Man of the Series award. By winning the T20I series, Bangladesh ended the tour with a 3-0 record in their favour having won the one-off Test and the ODI series which were also played at the Harare Sports Club earlier.

Going into the second T20I, the Zimbabwe team were under huge pressure having lost the one-off Test, being whitewashed in the ODI series 3-0 and then humbled in the first T20I by eight wickets. But credit to their belief and skills on display on Friday, July 23 at the Harare Sports Club, Harare that they came out triumphant and managed to level the series and gave themselves hope to win the shortest format of the three format Bangladesh’s tour of their nation. Wessley Madhevere was the star of the show for the hosts as he hit his third fifty and highest individual T20I score of 73 from 57 balls to take Zimbabwe to a total of 166 in the 20 overs. And even after Regis Chakabva, Tadiwanashe Marumani and skipper Raza failing himself, Madhever with the help of Dion Myers in the middle and some late blows oi Ryan Burl took their team to a defendable total. The 20-year-old right-hander was eventually awarded man of the match for his brilliant innings. Reacting to the win, the Zimbabwe skipper Raza said, “Today we managed to tick a lot more boxes than we managed yesterday. I would have taken 166 at the start of the match and with a young squad, it gives us confidence.” The 35-year-old, 105 ODIs veteran further hoped that the team will stick to the plan in the final game as well. “We back ourselves to defend... Blessing listened to the team plan... and hopefully, we all listen to the team plan for the final game!" On the other hand, Mahmudullah was disappointed with his team’s effort and said, “We didn't have a good partnership and missed a few chances in the field. We need to look into those areas and come back stronger." The two teams meet next on Sunday, July 25 for the final match of the tour as well as the series.
Rubel & Shamim Hossain miss flight to Zimbabwe due to visa issues
Bangladesh pacer Rubel Hossain and the uncapped Shamim Hossain have not been able to join the Bangladesh ODI and T20 squads due to visa-related complications, Cricbuzz reported on Friday, July 09. However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board showed confidence that the duo will be on the flight to Zimbabwe as soon as possible and that both for them will be available for selection in the T20 and ODI series that will follow the ongoing Test match in Harare. "Lot of flights have been cancelled in the recent past so we didn't want to take any risk and decided to send them as quickly as possible. Rubel and Shamim could not join their teammates due to visa complications but we are confident that we can send them soon and they will be available for the upcoming ODIs and T20Is against Zimbabwe,” Bangladesh Cricket Board's cricket operation chairman Akram Khan told Cricbuzz. Rubel Hossain has been an integral part of Bangladesh’s success over the last few years in ODIs and the team management would be desperate to have him to unsettle the Zimbabwean batsmen. The ODI series between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh is scheduled to take off from July 16 while the T20 series will commence on July 23.

Shakib Al Hasan has made a comeback to the Bangladesh Test side after skipping the Sri Lanka Tests in favour of the Indian Premier League. Along with him, wicketkeeper-batsman, Nurul Hasan has also made a comeback across formats in the tour. Other players making a comeback in various formats include off-spinner Nayeem Hassan (Test), Rubel Hossain and Taijul Islam (ODIs) and Aminul Islam (T20Is). "Getting the best player (Shakib) in three formats is always a plus point and we are hopeful that the team will be morally boosted up by his presence. We are hoping to have a good performance from him," Chief selector Minhajul Abedin said on Shakib’s inclusion in the squad. Nurul, who last played a Test in 2018 and limited-overs cricket in 2017 (T20I) for Banglades, has made a comeback purely on his domestic form including his impressive run in the ongoing Dhaka Premier League. The 27-year-old has scored 246 runs in the nine innings of the T20 tournament with an impressive average of 41. "If you consider the present performance he deserves to make a comeback in three formats. When we took him with us in Sri Lanka team management was very happy with him with his skill set," Minhaj said about Nurul’s inclusion in the side. Uncapped Shamim Patowary, the U-19 star is the only fresh face who made his way to the squad. He has been included in the T20I team. The Test will be played from July 7 while the ODIs are scheduled on July 16, 18 and 20 in Harare. wThe three T20Is will also be played at the same venue on July 23, 25 and 27.
