Mady Villiers

A wristy right-arm off-break bowler and more than a handy lower-order batswoman, Mady Villiers posted her first century in an Essex Schools’ Cup semi-final when she was just 13. She is a professional cricketer for England national team and Essex.

Villiers made her first-team debut for Essex in the county championship against Yorkshire in 2013 and later that season, she went on to make her Twenty20 debut against Sussex.

The Havering-born's breakthrough season arrived in 2015 when she scalped 8 wickets in the County Championship and 12 wickets in Twenty20 Cup. After a string of impressive performances, she cemented her spot in Essex’s playing XI. The allrounder continued to impress over the years, returning figures of 3-22 in the finals of the 2018 Kia Super League and winning the title for Surrey Stars. 

Following her splendid form in the domestic circuit and for Australia A, Villiers rightfully earned her international call-up in a T20I against Australia in July 2019. She made her international debut in the third T20I on July 31st, 2019. The Essex ace's first-ever international wicket was that of Aussie superstar Alyssa Healy. On her debut, she took 2-20 in her four overs spell which led England to an easy win against Australia. A spectacular debut saw the youngster included in England’s squad for the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. However, she played just one match against the Windies and picked one crucial wicket.

In January 2021, post-Covid-19 outbreak, Villiers was named in the squad for England’s tour of New Zealand. Her best international bowling figures of 3/10 came in the final match of the series decider which saw England defend a relatively low total against the White Ferns. In the coming years, the tweaker may well be a vital cog in the English cricket setup.
