Irish fast bowler Joshua Little who is currently plying his trade in the Lanka Premier League 2021, has been called up to bolster the squad that has left for the combined tour of the United States and West Indies which will begin December 22. According to a Cricket Ireland media release, four players i.e. Barry McCarthy, George Dockrell, Harry Tector and Gareth Delany have tested positive in the pres series testing and fast bowler Craig Young was identified as a close contact of Covid-19 positive persons and has therefore not been allowed to travel with the team. While McCarthy and Dockrell tested positive during pre-series testing, Tector and Delany, who have been in Florida playing the US T20 Open tournament-tested positive before linking up with the side which landed in Miami a few days ago. The pair have begun their 10-day in-room isolation already. McCarthy and Dockrell are also expected to link up with their teammates in the USA soon. Along with players, Assistant coach Gary Wilson has also not been able to travel with the team after he received a false positive report on his pre-series Covid test. The former Irish international is being re-tested, and if clear, will fly out on Sunday. "We are pleased to have our squad arrive in Miami and are all looking forward to the series ahead,” Richard Holdsworth, high-performance director for Cricket Ireland, said. "We have experienced a few last-minute complications related to COVID, but with the extended travelling squad that we have taken, and the recall of Josh Little from Sri Lanka, we don't foresee any issues with the series proceeding as scheduled,” he further added. World T20 2021 | On the back of Campher charisma, Ireland cruise past the Netherlands

World T20 2021 | On the back of Campher charisma, Ireland cruise past the Netherlands

Ireland notched up a famous first win over the Netherlands in a T20 World Cup game as they chased down 107 in just 15.1 overs to give a big boost to their net run rate as well, which might come in handy in the group of death if three teams end of two wins. Curtis Campher was the hero of the game for his record-breaking feat, in which he picked up four wickets in four balls, becoming only the third bowler in the entire world after Lasith Malinga and Rashid Khan to achieve that. Camphor removed Colin Ackermann, Ryan Ten Doeschate and Scott Edwards to complete his hattrick and then removed Roelof van der Merwe to complete four in four. His one over was instrumental in restricting the Dutch to only 106 in their quota of 20 overs. Campher’s hattrick was also the first for any Irish bowler in a World Cup. Mark Adair was the other Irish bowler who bowled brilliantly and finished with the figures 3-9 in his four overs. This was the most economical spell for an Irish bowler in a World Cup game. Courtesy of brilliant last over from him, in which only four runs were given and three Dutch wickets were taken. Chasing the target, the men in green got off to a good start with Kevin O’Brien and Paul Stirling giving a 27 run partnership in only four overs to start the chase. But then the Netherlands struck twice in two consecutive overs to try and change the course of the game. Stirling, who is usually a quick run-scorer stuck to the crease and had a match-winning 59 run stand with Gareth Delany. Even as Delany got out eventually on 44 of 29 balls, Stirling made sure that he saw the team through with a patient 30 off 39 balls. While Ireland would be playing their toughest game in the tournament when they face Sri Lanka next, the Netherlands and coach Ryan Cambell would go back to the drawing board to try and get a win against Namibia to keep their qualification hopes alive till their last league game against Sri Lanka.

Andrew Balbirnie to lead Ireland for ODI series against Netherlands in Utrecht

Ireland announced a 15 man squad which will be led by Andrew Balbirne for their tour to the Netherlands. The men in green would play three ODIs part of the Cricket World Cup Super League and try and add to their points for a chance of qualification to the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023, to be held in India. The squad includes veterans like Kevin O’Brien, William Porterfield and Paul Stirling while young guns like Gareth Delany and Mark Adair have also found a place in it. “The squad selected, not only rewards form but provides a group of players that offer Graham Ford and Andrew Balbirnie options on any given match day,’ said Andrew White chief Selector of National Men’s team. “We have sought to provide continuity with the young players who continue to gain exposure at the international level, while still incorporating a number of experienced players whose value around such a squad goes far beyond just their performances on the field,” he added. The Irish team which sits on the 10th spot in the Cricket World Cup Super League table with just one win in five matches have a great opportunity to gain momentum ahead of the South Africa and Zimbabwe series at home. They face the Netherlands which tied two-match series against Scotland recently. The three-match series will be played in Utrecht, the Netherlands with the first one starting on June 2. Ireland Squad Andrew Balbirnie (captain), Mark Adair, Gareth Delany, George Dockrell, Josh Little, Andrew McBrine, Graeme McCarter, Barry McCarthy, Kevin O’Brien, William Porterfield, Simi Singh, Paul Stirling, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker, Craig Young.
