Player Bio

A tall and lanky right-arm pacer, Hamid Hassan is a professional cricketer for Aghanistan national team. At the age of 15, Hassan started playing club cricket in 2002 and was selected in the U-17 squad to play in ACC U-17 Trophy in 2003.

Hassan gradually progressed into the senior team of Afghanistan and became the first Afghani cricketer to play cricket at the Iconic Lord’s in 2007 representing MCC against Europe XI. Part of Afghanistan’s squad for the World Cricket League division four tournament, the pacer picked up 3 wickets against Bostwana and 2 against Nepal ensuring their qualification to the next stage of the 2011 World Cup qualifiers.

Although Afghanistan didn’t qualify for the mega event, they earned the ODI status and Hassan’s all-round efforts helped them qualify for the 2010 T20 World Cup. Since making his T20I debut in 2010, he has become a crucial player for Afghanistan in the shortest format.

Selected to play in the 2019 ICC World Cup, Hassan quit ODI cricket after a three-wicket loss against Pakistan in the premier tournament. At 34 years of age, he is certainly in the twilight of his career and hasn’t played for the national team since his retirement from the 50-over format even after being named in Afghanistan’s squad for the T20 World Cup.
