Player Bio

An elegant wicket-keeper batsman, Steven Michael Davies is a professional cricketer for the English national team. A first-out cricketer in the men’s game, he officially announced that he was gay in February 2011. Davies began his cricketing journey in 2001 for Worcestershire and has become a prominent figure in the English domestic circuit since.

Bursting onto the international stage in a T20 against West Indies in 2009, Davies was selected for the tremendous progress and ability that he had shown for Worcestershire. Although he was consistent, his selection and treatment were quite the opposite as he found himself forever in and out of the team.

The 35-year-old wicketkeeper has enjoyed a successful decade on the domestic circuit since then, with previous county Surrey and with Somerset. Davies, who joined Somerset for the 2017 season from Surrey, played a key role in helping the County retain its first division status and ended as the leading run-scorer.

The veteran is still a dominant figure in the domestic circuit and is immensely talented. A fantastic cricketer and the first openly gay cricketer in the world, his experience is widely discussed and the experience certainly helps the youngster within the squad to express themselves better both on and off the field.
