Milestone
That concludes the presentation and it also wraps up our coverage of the 14th FairBreak Invitational Women T20 2023. Barmy Army Women have ended their league stage on a high with a comprehensive victory over the Sapphires. For now, this is Megh Mandaliya, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Akshay Bhide, and our scorer/analyst Zeeshan Naiyer. Cheers!
Lauren Winfield-Hill (Barmy Army Women Skipper): "It was really important for us to win the last league game. We made a few changes but are happy to win and carry the momentum forward. Ruby bowled extremely well and Ruchi also contributed. That's the depth of our squad and everyone has stepped up when required. There is a good vibe around the group. We are enjoying each other's success and have good energy. We will take a rest tomorrow and come out all guns firing on Friday."
Sana Mir (South Coast Sapphires Women Skipper): "Chhetri bowled really well today. She batted really well as well. We unfortunately did not bat well. Whether it's the top order or the middle order. Jivana Aras was impressive today. It's all about building these players in this tournament. I am happy that they will get something out of this match and take it back home. It's a brilliant platform and I love the whole dressing room environment."
Robeen Chhetri (Player of the Match): "Definitely it means a lot to me because many people are watching back at home. I wanted to set an example and prove that women's cricket is growing around the world. I was not sure about the fifer. I just wanted to bowl well and help the team win. I realized this after picking the fifer and was happy with it. I loved the wicket of Sana Mir."
Player of the Match: Robeen Chhetri
Time for the post-match presentation.
10:17 AM IST | That will do it for the Barmy Army Women. They continue their winning streak this season and Lauren Winfield-Hill will end the league stages on a positive note. The Barmy Army Women have defeated the South Coast Sapphires comfortably by 61 runs and they have climbed up to the second spot in the points table momentarily.

In pursuit of a hefty total of 169 runs, the South Coast Sapphires were off to a disappointing start as Tara Norris dismissed Sibona Jimmy on a golden duck. Babette de Leede and Erin Burns tried to resurrect the innings for the Sapphires after an early blow but Robeen Chhetri broke the 26-run stand between the duo by dismissing Burns for 21(17), which included 4 boundaries to her credit.

Robeen Chhetri soon bagged another scalp of Maryam Omar 2(4) and left Sapphires reeling at 39/3 at the end of the powerplay. Natasha Farrant then got together with keeper Babette de Leede and did the recovery work for the Sapphires. The duo dictated the play well in the middle over and aggregated a 46-run partnership. Their progress was yet again halted by Chhetri as she got rid of de Leede for 23(25).

The Nepalese spinner Chhetri was quick to bag another two wickets in quick succession and claim the first five-wicket haul of this season. She completed her stint with exceptional figures of 5/11. The left-handed Farrant kept fighting but was unable to find a partner at the other end and eventually, she also succumbed to building pressure. Farrant had to walk back for 32(32). Following her wicket, the target proved a little too much for the Sapphires and they fell 61 runs short of the target.

Earlier in the day, after being invited to bat first,
Laura Wolvaardt and Nigar Sultana spearheaded the innings for Barmy Army Women and they were off to a pretty decent start early on before Sana Mir got better off Nigar Sultana 11(6), who departed in the process of early acceleration. That was soon followed by the wicket of Roberta Moretti Avery 4(10) who was trapped in front by Kary Chan.

The South African opener Laura Wolvaardt started the onslaught and collected boundaries at regular intervals. The Barmy Army Women lost another wicket at the stroke of the powerplay but that did not stop Wolvaardt. The right-hander was soon joined by Shemaine Campbelle, who also went all guns blazing. The duo stitched a 45-run partnership before Wolvaardt had to walk back for 49(32).

Following Wolvaardt’s wicket, the Barmy Army Women kept losing wickets at regular intervals as there was no stopping Jivana Aras in the middle overs. Campbelle accumulated a crucial 30(17) before she too was outdone by USA pacer Aras. Just when Barmy Army Women were heading towards another collapse, Tara Norris 17*(12) joined forces with Robeen Chhetri 32*(25) and orchestrated a much-needed partnership of 47 runs and helped the Barmy Army Women to post a competitive total. Stick around for the post-match presentation!

Umpire check for a runout! Aras is well short of the crease and OUT has been signaled on the big screen.
15.5 R Venkatesh to P To
W+1 1 run completed and run out. On a length outside off, To drives on the up past covers and comes back for the second. The sweeper in the off side is quick to the ball and throws it at the non-striker's end where Venkatesh collects it on the bounce and dislodges the bails in a flash. Aras is struggling to get in the crease at the non-striker's end and dives full-length. The decision is sent upstairs. The replays are in and Aras is well short of the crease. The final wicket falls and the Barmy Army Women win the game comprehensively 61 runs.
15.5 R Venkatesh to P To
WD Short and well outside the tramline in the off side and wide signaled by the umpire.
15.4 R Venkatesh to P To
0 Tossed up outside off and To pushes it straight to short covers.

15.3 R Venkatesh to G Kodali
W A loud appeal and the finger is raised. The Sapphires Women are falling like a pack of cards here. Flighted off-break on off and turns in after pitching, Kodali shuffles across the stumps and looks to work it into the leg side but misses and wears it on the front pad. Up goes the finger and Kodali departs without troubling the scorers.
15.2 R Venkatesh to J Aras
1 An off-break on a length, Aras pushes it in the off side and steals a quick single.
