02:27 AM IST: That's it. Sussex beat Hampshire tonight by six runs. The game went down to the wire but fielding was the difference between both sides and some exceptional catching and saves in the last two overs help Sussex prevail tonight. Sussex grab their third win of the Vitality T20 Blast 2023 and will hope that they carry forward the winning momentum in their upcoming games.

Chasing 184, Hampshire got off to the worst possible start as they lost four of their top five batters on single-digit scores. They were reeling at 24/4 in the fourth over. Jake Wheatherley along with Liam Dawson led the recovery work for Hampshire. Both stitched a 51-run stand between them before Weatherley fell on 33. It allowed Sussex to pull back things.

Dawson looked solid at the crease and pounced on anything loose. He brought up his fifty but was cleaned up on 59 off 34 balls. Benny Howell kept Hampshire in the chase but departed in the penultimate over, courtesy of a mind-boggling catch from Bradley James Curie in the deep. Nathan Ellis gave a scare in the last over but an extraordinary save in the deep from Harrison David Ward and some excellent death bowling from Aristides Karvelas helped Sussex win the game by six runs. Currie set the tone early in the innings as he picked up three wickets, giving away 27 runs in his four overs. Each of Sussex's bowlers picked up at least a wicket as they defended the total successfully.

Earlier, Sussex were asked to bat first and they got off to a flying start. They lost both their openers early in the innings but Oliver Carter along with Ravi Bopara steadied the ship. Both played some fantastic shots and kept Hampshire at bay. Bopara fell on 30 but there was no stopping Carter as he brought up his fifty in quick time. He hit six boundaries and four sixes to score 64 off 33 balls before departing in the 13th over.

Hampshire bowled well in the death overs but Michael Burgess (26* off 24 balls), Danial Ibrahim (18 off 15 balls) and George Garton (4* off 1 ball) helped Sussex post 183 on the board. Hampshire picked up six wickets in total, with John Andrew Turner and Benny Howell finishing with two each. The game went down to the wire and Sussex held their nerves to emerge victorious.

19.6 A Karvelas to Turner
1 Karvelas holds his nerves as he bowls a legal delivery and wins it for Sussex. Bowls it full on the stumps and Turner can only hit it along the ground towards long on for a single. With this, Sussex beat Hampshire by six runs.
19.5 A Karvelas to N Ellis
W WICKET!!!! Karvelas has the last laugh. Bowls a dipping slower yorker on the stumps, Ellis is completely deceived by it as he goes through with the shot but fails to get any bat on this one. He wears it on the back leg in front of the stumps and the umpire has no hesitation in raising his finger. A legal final delivery and Sussex will be home.
19.4 A Karvelas to N Ellis
2 Shorter in length outside off, Ellis pulls it high into the night sky. The ball was sailing over the ropes but Ward out on the deep mid wicket boundary leaps and gets both hands to it and throws it back. An extraordinary effort from Ward and he saves four runs for his side. 8 from 2 now.
19.3 A Karvelas to N Ellis
6 SIXXX!!!! Ellis clears the ropes this time. Karvelas bowls it right in the slot on the stumps, Ellis gets underneath this one and launches it straight back over the bowler's head. He gets the elevation and the distance as it sails over the ropes. That brings down the equation to 10 from 3.
19.2 A Karvelas to N Ellis
2 A yorker on leg from Karvelas and Ellis works it in the gap between long on and deep mid wicket for a couple of runs. 16 from 4 now.
19.1 A Karvelas to N Ellis
4 FOUR!!! Ellis starts the final over with a boundary. Karvelas bowls a low full toss on the pads and Ellis flicks it nicely behind square in the leg side for a boundary. Beats deep square leg fielder to collect a boundary.
Hampshire require 22 runs from the last over.

18.4 T Mills to C Wood
