1:55 AM IST | Lancashire Lightning brush aside Northamptonshire Steelbacks pretty easily by a comfortable margin of 35 runs! A much-needed win for the Red Roses.

The Steelbacks were off to a perfect start reducing Lancashire to 25-3 inside five overs after deciding to bowl first. But a stunning recovery from the middle order batters Steven Croft and Daryl Mitchell pulled the match back in the visitor's favour. The experienced duo added 146 runs for the 4th wicket and kept the hosts at bay. Mitchell fell short of his half-century by 2 runs handing Justin Broad his first-ever T20 Blast wicket in the 17th over. On the other hand, Croft continued his dream batting form with his first T20 hundred and ended up scoring 101 off 52 balls with five 4's and seven 6's. Liam Livingstone struck a few lusty blows and played a brilliant cameo of 25 from 13 balls helping his side cross past the 200-run mark. A flurry of wickets fell in the final over but still Lancashire managed to post 204/7 in 20 overs.

Ben Sanderson was the pick of the Northants bowlers, finishing with figures of 2/29.

Chasing the mammoth target, Northamptonshire lost wickets in clusters and were at one stage struggling at 95/7. Firstly Luke Wood (3/39) bowled a magnificent spell with the new ball and at one stage was on a hat-trick. Following this display, Lancashire spinners Luke Wells and Tom Hartley tightened the grip with a combined figures of 8-0-52-3.

Andrew Tye (35 off 17) and Tom Taylor (40* off 27) had good fun batting in the middle adding an excellent partnership of 58 runs for the 8th wicket. This could only delay the inevitable as Daryl Mitchell (2/25) bowled a decent spell in the death overs accounting for the wickets of Tye and Ben Sanderson. A final ball six from Taylor pushed Northants score only as far as 169/9 in 20 overs.

19.6 L Wood to T Taylor
6 SIXXX!!! Tom Taylor with a maximum in the final ball of the match but doesn't make any effect on the result. Short and outside off. Taylor on the back foot smokes the flat-batted pull shot. Plenty of muscle power on it and clears long-on easily for a six.
19.5 L Wood to F Heldreich
1 Short of a length at the body of the batter. Heldreich stands tall and helps it with a pull towards long leg for a single.
19.4 L Wood to T Taylor
1 Fuller at the stumps. Taylor flicks it to deep mid-wicket for a single.
19.3 L Wood to T Taylor
2 Fuller outside off. Driven hard along the carpet towards deep extra cover for a couple more.
19.2 L Wood to T Taylor
2 Fuller-length wide outside off. Taylor stretches for it and plays it to deep covers. Jones in the deep runs to his right and dives across to pull the ball in keeping it to just double.
19.1 L Wood to T Taylor
2 Over the wicket. Hard length angling across outside off. Taylor throws his hands and gets enough bat on it to clear extra cover fielder for a couple.
Luke Wood to bowl the ultimate over. Expect some scorching yorkers.

18.6 D Mitchell to T Taylor
1 Fuller and angling in at the stumps. Taylor heaves and heaves only as far as long-on is concerned for a single.
18.5 D Mitchell to F Heldreich
1 Short of a length at the middle stump. Heldreich jumps around and tucks it to square leg for a single.
And here comes the last man. Freddie Heldreich, the one who was spanked left and right by the Lightning batters.

18.4 D Mitchell to B Sanderson
W WICKETT!!! Another one bites the dust. A low full toss at the off-stump. Sanderson bends low looking to capitalize on the loose delivery. Completely mishits getting an outside half of the bat. Pops up towards mid-off and Wood takes a simple catch.
18.3 D Mitchell to B Sanderson
0 Back of a length down the leg side following the batter backing away. A swing and a miss by Sanderson.
