01:40 AM IST: That’s it. Durham win the game by four wickets. They complete a double over Northamptonshire in the Vitality T20 Blast 2023. They grab their fourth win of the competition and get back to winning ways. Northamptonshire tried hard but it just wasn’t their day today as they suffer their fourth loss.

Durham got off to a flying start while chasing 162. Graham Clark along with his skipper Alex Lees played some wonderful strokes up front and took advantage of the fielding restrictions. They scored 57 at the end of the powerplay. Freddie Heldreich was introduced into the attack and he dismissed Lees on 30 on his very first ball. Michael Alexander Jones joined Clark and stitched a 42-run partnership before falling on 15. Clark played some fantastic shots and brought up his fifty.

Clark departed on a 30-ball 55 and Northamptonshire pulled back things with some tight overs in the middle phase. Ashton Turner played aggressively right from ball one and kept scoring at a brisk rate. Oliver George Robinson was dismissed on 12 in the 16th over but Turner made sure that there were no more hiccups in the chase as he remained unbeaten on 31 to guide his side across the line with seven balls to spare. Heldreich finished with figures of 3/36 for Northamptonshire but it wasn’t enough as they failed to defend the total.

Earlier, Durham skipper Alex Lees won the toss and opted to bowl first. Northamptonshire got off to a very good start, thanks to their openers Emilio Gay and Chris Lynn. Both looked solid at the crease and gave their side a fantastic start. They put 61 between them before Lynn fell on run a ball 24. Northamptonshire lost Joshua Cobb (2), David Willey (17) and Saif Zaib (8) in the middle phase as Durham bowled beautifully and kept a check on the scoring rate.

Gay looked solid at the crease and he played some wonderful strokes at the other end. He brought up his maiden T20 fifty but fell on 53 in the 16th over while trying to up the ante. Andrew Tye played a cameo of 15 off seven balls but they failed to finish with a flourish as they managed to score 161 at the end of their 20 overs. Nathan Sowter starred with the ball for Durham as he picked up four wickets and gave away only 14 runs in his four overs. Wayne Parnell also chipped in with a couple of scalps.
