That brings an end to our coverage for this game. Do join us next time for more cricketing action all around the globe. For now, this is Akshay Bhide, signing off, on behalf of my co-commentator Prince Suman and scorer Bishal Mandal. Tata. Bye Bye.
09:55 PM IST: That's it. Tom Alsop is the man for Sussex as he finishes the game in the last over. He remains unbeaten on 51 off 42 balls to help his side ace the chase of 149 with one ball to spare. Sussex register their first win of the Vitality T20 Blast 2023 as they beat Surrey by five wickets.

Chasing a target of 149 to win, Alastair Orr played aggressively and looked good at the crease but his opening partner Tom Clark struggled for timing. His struggles came to an end when he fell on a 12-ball nine. Orr hit a couple of boundaries and as many sixes before departing on 24. They were 37/2 at the end of the fielding restrictions. Ravi Bopara also fell cheaply as Surrey fought back.

Sunil Narine spun a web around the Sussex’s batters in the middle overs. He bowled beautifully and picked the wicket of George Garton to peg back Sussex while chasing. Michael Burgess came out all guns blazing and hit some outstanding strokes to keep his side in the hunt. Tom Alsop played a perfect foil to Burgess as they scored at a brisk rate.

Burgess and Alsop pounced on anything loose and found regular boundaries. With 16 required to win off 13 balls, Burgess fell two short of his half-century. Alsop made sure that there were no hiccups in the chase. With 10 required from the last over, Alsop kept his cool and remained unbeaten on 51 to guide his side across the line with one ball to spare. Daniel Worrall and Narine picked up two wickets each but it wasn't enough as Surrey suffered their first loss of this year's competition.

Earlier, Sussex skipper Ravi Bopara won the toss and elected to bat first. Surrey’s openers Will Jacks and Laurie Evans looked good at the crease, with the latter taking on the bowlers from the word go. He played some wonderful strokes upfront before falling on 23 in the fifth over. Jacks followed him in the hut as they were 42/2 at the end of the powerplay. Sam Curran couldn’t get going today as he departed cheaply. Tom Curran along with Sunil Narine led the recovery work for the hosts.

Narine played aggressively and put away the loose balls. He hit two fours and three sixes and scored 29 off 18 balls before he holed out in the deep. It allowed Sussex to pull back things. They bowled beautifully and picked regular wickets to knock over Surrey on 148 as they failed to play out their full quota of 20 overs. Bopara was fantastic with the ball as he picked up three wickets and gave away only 18 runs in his three overs. Tymal Mills also chipped in with a couple of scalps. The Sussex batters then stepped up and chased down the total in the last over.
