Milestone
That was a brilliant run-chase to close out another double-header day in the IPL. Earlier, it was an anti-climax at Lucknow as the rain had the final say, but this was some ball striking by both teams, with Mumbai Indians claiming two points at the end. We are signing off now, but the coverage continues. Don’t forget to join us tomorrow as well. For now, it was AkshayaKrishna Polya, who, alongside my co-commentators Ninaad Dixit and Hitesh Peddurwar and scorer/analyst Paras Yadav brought you all the live-action of this mouth-watering fixture.
Ishan Kishan: "I know but the wicket was good for batting. I kept the wickets for 20 overs and I knew how it was playing. So I knew what to do exactly. I went with the clear mindset that if anything is in my arc I would go for it. Rishi Dhawan was swinging it pretty well and with their wicket-keeper not coming upto the stumps, I used my feet and charged the bowlers.

The message from the coaches was simple and they said to watch the ball and hit the ball. It doesn't matter what is the target. Whether it's 215 or anything it doesn't matter. We had such a run chase earlier and we finished it as well.

I train really hard and work hard on my fitness as well. The credit goes to my mom's food. I got this compliment earlier as well. But then I lost both of them. I hope I keep this one (chuckles as Harsha Bhogle praises the diamonds on the ears of Kishan)."
Player of the Match: Ishan Kishan
Rohit Sharma (Mumbai Indians Skipper): "Yeah, definitely the things are different now. When we started playing T20 cricket 150,140 would have been a good total. Plus one extra batter makes a big difference.  I was checking the average inning score in this IPL, which is 180. So you can make out and sense that if teams are making 200 then teams can chase that. Yeah, SKY is doing it for us for the last few years. He plays shots behind the wicket, he uses his strengths to perfect. Ishan and SKY play pretty and Tilak and Tim finished perfectly.

Yeah, we have just talked about it, we need to bat well. Before the season we just talked that we need to just express ourselves, in the meanwhile we might lose a few games but we need to get over it. Ishan looks small but he has so much power, he has been practicing it for the last few weeks.

We need to look at certain options, we need to take in the middle overs.
I think we have been conceding 200+ from the last 3 to 4 games we need to work on our bowling, with the extra batter coming in it becomes a bit tough. "
Active Catch of the Match: Arshdeep Singh
Longest Six Hit in the Match: Tilak Varma (103m)
Most Fours Hit in the Match: Suryakumar Yadav
Most Valuable Asset of the Match: Ishan Kishan
Game Changer of the Match: Ishan Kishan
Electric Striker of the Match: Tilak Varma
11:25 PM IST | Time for the post-match presentations.
Suryakumar Yadav (Mumbai Indians): "Really happy that we ended up on the winning side but at the same time I really felt that I should have finished the game again like I left it in the last game. Really happy with the way things went. I think it was very clear when I went in to bat that we had to bat with a positive intent and it was very important to give Ishan that support at that time because he was batting really well with a good strike rate and I just enjoyed myself inside and just played what I do always.

I always prepare for these situations. If I have to get 12 or 14 runs per over then what are my shots. When I am sitting in the dressing room before the first innings, all the plans are very clear. I just be myself whenever I go inside.

Till now I haven't thought about it [whom to target] unless the last 3 overs are going on. I had to back my strength and had to bat at a similar strike rate as Ishan to bring the game close in the end.

We reversed our role tonight. I actually don't have that power game. I like to time the ball, hit the ball in the gaps, play the field and that's what I did today and I really feel the way things went, I enjoyed batting with Ishan and really happy that partnership ended up in a winning cause."
Shikhar Dhawan (Punjab Kings Captain): "We started out well and thought it was a good total but unfortunately we couldn't defend it. Rishi bowled really well but from the other end, we gave away quite a lot. We should have bowled more tight lines and could have been more proactive. Ishan and Surya took the game away from us.

We felt that its a very good wicket so change of pace will work a lot and that's where I feel Nathan bowled really well. His change of pace was good but the other bowlers didn't step up today.

There was dew on the field and the wicket got better. If the spinners get hit then its hard to contain runs and I backed my main bowlers as well. I expect them to deliver and unfortunately today they couldn't deliver."
Earlier in the match, Mumbai Indians won the toss and decided to bowl first. Punjab lost their opener, Prabhsimran Singh, in the second over. Afterwards, Shikhar Dhawan and Matthew Short added 49 runs for the second wicket. While the former looked good during his stay of 30 off 20 balls, the latter was scratchy, scoring 27 off 26 balls. Piyush Chawla’s (4-0-29-2) brilliant spell in the middle got rid of both these batters, who were completely outfoxed by the veteran’s guile.

Jitesh Sharma joined Liam Livingstone, and what unfurled was excellent to watch for a neutral fan. Both smashed the MI bowlers left, right and centre and hammered an unbeaten 119-run partnership for the 4th wicket. While Livingstone amassed 82 runs off 42 deliveries, including 7 fours and 4 sixes, Jitesh was hitting them clean and scored 49 runs off 27 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes. Even Jofra Archer (4-0-56-0) felt the heat of this blistering partnership and finished with his most expensive spell in the IPL as PBKS posted 4th consecutive 200-plus score and ended their innings at 214/3.

Chasing the mammoth total of 215, Mumbai Indians lost their skipper Rohit Sharma for a bronze duck in the first over as Rishi Dhawan got PBKS off to an unbelievable start. Then despite looking scratchy, Cameron Green and Ishan Kishan stitched together 54 runs for the second wicket. Green (23 off 18) holed out in the final ball off the powerplay as Nathan Ellis made the breakthrough.

Then came MI’s impact player Suryakumar Yadav who made the biggest impact of the season. Suryakumar and Kishan went after the bowlers and scored on every part of the ground. The partnership between SKY (66 off 31) and Kishan (75 off 41) was worth 116 runs for the third wicket and considerably pulled down the required run rate. Both garnered respective fifties and hit 15 fours and 6 sixes in between them.

When the scorecard was reading 170/2 after 15 overs, Mumbai were cruising towards the target. But both the half-centurions were out in the matter of 7 deliveries, and it was thought that PBKS would make a comeback. But Tilak Varma had other ideas as he smoked Arshdeep Singh for 6, 4, 6 in the last three balls off the 17th over to bring the equation down to 21 off 18 balls. Tim David (19* off 10) played a handy cameo as well supporting Varma very well. Amidst the carnage Arshdeep went for too many runs and with a Tilak Varma (26* off 10) six straight down the ground the left-armer's night finished at 3.5-0-66-1 as MI chased down the total pretty easily at the end.

Stay tuned for the presentations!

18.5 A Singh to T Varma
6 SIX!!! What a way to finish the game!! Hammers a half volley straight down the ground!! 137.3kph just lurking outside the off stump. Varma gets on the front foot and smashes a great looking and sounding lofted straight drive! The ball touches the middle of the bat and gets lost in the stands!! Mumbai Indians have won by 6 wickets chasing a huge target at Mohali!
That was a risky second run, but they get home safely.
