A comprehensive win for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and they initiate the season with a win of 50 runs margin. Delhi Capitals will try to regroup and assess the areas of improvement. It's just the start of the tournament though.

So, that's it from a doubleheader Saturday. Stay tuned to our network as two big matches are in queue the next day. This is Arijit Kundu, signing off alongside co-commentators, AkshayaKrishna Polya, Ayan Chatterjee, and scorer/analyst Paras Yadav.
Mark Wood (Player of the Match):"Definitely. the run ups were a problem due to the dew but got into a rhytm slowly. We practised with the wet ball. Last time I was here was for CSK and didn't go well. Happy to improve from that.  ball and did not go into the match. I slipped in the match. But KL was patient and Morne helped me as well. Today I was trying to keep it short and come from a longer run up. It does affect you, if you have to constantly think about the landing area. So, happy to have sorted it out and getting the job done for the team. Happy to help the team win in the end."
KL Rahul (Lucknow Super Giants captain): "Yeah, it was a great start I think. At the initial stage, I said that we were clueless about the pitch as well. We weren't familiar with the conditions. We will take a lot of confidence with this one. Again, the toss is not in our hands, but with the new rule, you get to choose what team you want to go with. It has come in handy.

I felt that we were 25-30 runs above par. The way Kyle batted, took the approach against the spinners, and got us to a good start, was superb. But the way they started in the first three overs, they were about 30-odd runs I think.

The whole group I think. It was Woody's day. he took six [five actually] wickets, which was really well. He made an impact there. It was Woody's day but I think in the end, it was the overall group who did the job.

Obviously, we will take a lot of confidence from it. We will try to take as much off it. This is T20 cricket, and we will try not to overdo it. But yes, we will take the confidence from it."

The second England bowler to bag a five-wicket haul in IPL: Mark Wood

Dimitri Mascarenhas (KXIP) had figures of 5/25 against Pune Warriors India in 2012, in Mohali.

Marcus Stoinis (Lucknow Super Giants): "A great start by the boys and we are happy that we have won in the manner we did. Yes, nice to have those problems like that. The coaches say good problem to have. It was soaking wet out there. We practise under lights. It's a sandy surface, the guys slipped up here and there. It happens. The pitch looked different at each ends. One end spun while the others helped the pacers. So, we had to adjust to the conditions and we did that. Yes, I am happy that I was not needed to bowl. But if called for, I am ready to bowl and good to go."
David Warner (Delhi Capitals Captain): "It was difficult to bat during the chase as it was made by the LSG bowlers. They bowled really well in the powerplay and put us under pressure. During the toss, I thought 175 should be par. But they added a few more runs. Not to take anything away from their bowlers, who bowled with good intent and put us in trouble. They did an outstanding job. Momentum is important in this game. We talk about forming alliances, but you can't take Wood's place. He's a fantastic bowler, and he demonstrated his true talent and experience tonight. See, you can't drop a catch and that too of Kyle Mayers. In fact, you shouldn't be dropping catches. Once you give life to a big guy will make you pay for it. From either end, it appeared as if you were bowling on two different surfaces. It's a case of going back to the drawing board for us. We go back to Delhi infront of our home crowd for the next game. I think I have been back in Delhi around 2010-11. Now the pitch there might have changed a bit. Haha... I would like to forget that(Cheekily smiles when asked about playing in Delhi in the BGT Test match vs India last month)."

11:24 PM IST | Not the start Delhi Capitals would have liked to get in the tournament but they would like to solve the grey areas as soon as possible. Lucknow Super Giants kick off their campaign with a 50 runs✊🏽 victory at their home.

Arriving for a hefty chase Delhi Capitals faltered with every wicket inside the powerplay. It was Mark Wood who rushed the batters with pace and enforced cracks in the wall of the Capitals. Warner was the lone warrior for them and lost partners who could succor him at the right time. Prithvi Shaw and the skipper looked in good touch until the inception of Wood. The Englishman went through the gates of Shaw and Mitchell Marsh on back-to-back deliveries, pushing Delhi on the back foot.

Sarfaraz Khan was promoted second down but failed to gleam. He got some wood on a serious bumper, losing his poise and falling bizarrely. Rilee Rossouw (30) glued 38 runs with Warner in the middle but was removed by Ravi Bishnoi. This was yet another awkward dismissal where the Proteas batter got the swell of the blade on the follow-through of the shot, ending up in a caught-out.

Rovman Powell and Aman Khan looked like walking wickets and Warner (56 off 48 balls) succumbed under the pressure. The tail dragged on with some runs but it didn’t add much value. Mark Wood arrived for the ultimate over and enforced two wickets, bringing up the first fifer of IPL 2023. Avesh Khan and Ravi Bishnoi bagged two wickets each.

Earlier, David Warner of DC had won the toss and elected to field first. In the absence of Quinton de Kock, Kyle Mayers came to open the innings with KL Rahul. They initiated the innings watchfully against the left-arm pacers of Delhi Capitals. It was a matter of time before Mayers switched gears and brought his stormy side. Although KL Rahul was dismissed early today it was the Caribbean all-rounder who steered the innings deep.

Deepak Hooda, Krunal Pandya, and Marcus Stoinis could only touch the double-digit mark but failed to convert to a healthy score. Khaleel Ahmed and Kuldeep Yadav were taken to the cleaners but struck with scalps in the middle phases. After the dismissal of Mayers (73 off 38 balls), Nicholas Pooran took the charge and helped LSG reach a commendable total. A quick cameo from Ayush Badoni and a last-ball six off impact player sub, Krishnappa Gowtham propelled the total to 193.

Stay tuned as the post-match presentation starts soon.
