Milestone
So, that is it from the first match of the tournament. A one-sided affair - just like we experienced at the start of the IPL way back in 2008. It was Sourav Ganguly-led KKR then and now it is Mumbai Indians Women who emerge victorious.

We hope you enjoyed our coverage. This is
Arijit Kundu, signing off alongside co-commentator Srivathsa and scorer/analyst Paras Yadav.

We have got a double header tomorrow at the WPL. So, make sure we stick to our network. Tata! Adios.
Harmapreet Kaur | MI-W captain: "It was a brilliant start. a dream come true. whatever we were doing it was in our favour. We kept things simple and told everyone go and play your natural game, being there and expressing yourselves and backing your skills. I will watch the ball and back myself. Not think too much and react to the situation. It worked my way. We knew it was a very good batting wicket, we discussed if we hit the right area it won't be easy and that's what the bowlers executed. The way we started we want to continue."
Time for the presentation ceremony...
Nat Sciver-Brunt: "Absolutely, it was a great game to kickstart the tournament. The crowd was absolutely stunning today. Trying to calm myself a little bit. Such a big thing for Women's cricket. And then gave a pat on my back and got to work. I guess that's the best thing about playing in different conditions.

I really have been a part of the side for 3-4 days, we have been great. Ah, definitely Saika. She is the most exciting person I have seen to take a wicket. It's great to have the local players, they are exciting.

Yeah, it is great to be on the same team. She [Harmanpreet Kaur] can fly from the middle of the bat and yes, she played brilliantly today. Ah, well I don't know about that. She [Charlotte Edwards] is excited for us as much as everyone else."
Sneh Rana (Gujarat Giants Vice-captain): "This is just the start. Some players soak it up early, some will take time. The atmosphere was different and I think it was a great learning for us today. We will definitely come back stronger.

I think the physio will update [on Beth Mooney's injury] in some time. See, whenever I get a responsibility, I have to stand on my foot. If I get a chance tomorrow, I will try not to make the mistakes we did today. We needed to keep our heads high and not repeat the mistakes. We have a lot of domestic cricketers who have been good before. We will definitely come back strong."
11:05 PM IST | A thumping of epic proportions. MI-W have crushed Gujarat in the opening game of the Women's IPL. Much like 2008 when KKR handed RCB a hammering, this game has gone only one way. Chasing 208, Gujarat were set back when Mooney after an innocuous back foot block hobbled off inside, pulling something.

From then it was a procession as wickets fell at regular intervals. Gardner and Harleen Doel went for ducks and soon Gujarat were 23-7 with Mooney retired hurt.

But Dayalan Hemalatha went down fighting with a couple of good sixes and the last batter Monica Patel too impressed with two good-looking shots. But it was all Mumbai who were rampant with the ball with the left-arm spin of Saika Ishaque finishing with a four-fer.

Earlier Hayley Matthews, Harmanpreet and Amelia Kerr shone with the bat as Mumbai made a big score. Matthews made 47 but it was Harmanpreet who dazzled with her strokeplay - at one stage she hit 7 fours in a row to delight the crowd. At the end, the brilliant Kerr added more colour to the innings with a fantastic knock of 45 from just 24 balls.

Gujarat leaked too many boundaries and did not have any clue to the continued assault. And the chase was never a contest as Gujarat lost by 143 runs.

Aside from the contest, a landmark day for Women's cricket in India and overall as well, as the inaugural WPL kicked off amid a razzmatazz of celebrities and a host of dignitaries. Hopefully, like the Men's tournament, this one will go from strength to strength. Meanwhile, stay tuned for the post-match presentations...
15.1 S Ishaque to M Patel
W OUT! That should be the game. A quicker delivery and Patel swivels to pull and misses, the ball falls on top of the leg-stump. And that is game over as Mooney won't come out to bat. What a one-sided start to the WPL we have had. Ishaque finishes with a four-for.
