Their bowlers did a brilliant job of restricting the Originals Women to 107 before their top-order batters stepped up and contributed to help them chase down the total with ease. The Rockets Women beat the Originals Women by 9 wickets to keep their finals hopes alive.
Chasing 108, the Rockets Women got off to a sensational start, courtesy of an onslaught from their openers Lizelle Lee and Bryony Smith. They took on the Originals' bowling attack from the word go and scored at a brisk rate. They put fifty between them in no time and the Originals Women looked clueless. Both Lee and Smith scored 60 between them off just 36 balls before the latter fell after scoring 28 off just 19 balls. Her knock comprised six boundaries.
Lee continued her merry way at the top of the order. She played some beautiful strokes and didn't allow the run rate to dip. She was joined by skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt who started aggressively. Both made sure that they chased down the total quickly to boost their net run rate. Lee remained unbeaten on 44 off 27 balls whereas Nat remained unbeaten on 33 off 18 balls as they completed a comprehensive win over the Originals Women in front of their home crowd.
Earlier, the Originals Women won the toss and opted to bat first. They had a shaky start as they lost Emma Lamb (2) and Fritha Morris (1) cheaply in the powerplay. Laura Wolvaardt was joined by Deandra Dottin and both led the recovery work. They had to work hard for runs as the Rockets Women bowled beautifully. Wolvaardt struggled throughout her innings and fell on a 31-ball 23 while trying to up the ante.
Dottin looked settled at the crease and hit a couple of boundaries before holing out in the deep on 30. Amanda-Jade Wellington (22*) and Katie George (14*) stitched a good partnership of 35 runs for the sixth wicket as it helped the Originals Women post 107 on the board. The Rockets Women picked up five wickets in total. They bowled brilliantly and did a fine job with the ball in hand before their batters stepped up to chase down the total in just 64 balls.
