That's it from the opening game from PSL Season 8. Join us tomorrow for another PSL game from Karachi and stick around for more cricketing action across the globe. For now, this is Ayan Chatterjee signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Tugral Azmi alongside scorer/analyst Manish Bishnoi. Stay safe, happy, and cool. Goodnight and CHEERS!
Shaheen Afridi (Lahore Qalandars Captain): "I am very happy with the effort of our players and we have started this edition from where we ended last season. We did well with the bat but some 15-20 runs I think were short of the way we got the start. We made a lot of fielding mistakes which we will try to rectify in our next game."
Mohammad Rizwan (Multan Sultans Captain): "Obviously. The way we started, we thought we will win. But their bowling was great and it was at the death. Dew was not a factor. We have our strengths and they their weaknesses. We started well and did not finish well. It happens. It was a good game. We bowled well just that the finishing touch was missing. Such is cricket and it happens. We have to take it under the chin and move on."
Fakhar Zaman (Player of the Match): "The pitch wasn't what we had anticipated. We anticipated a good come-on, but the pacers really benefited a little from it. We missed a few runs, but 175 is a respectable total with our bowling."
Time for the presentations.
Hussain Talat (Lahore Qalandars): "Yes, I am quite pleased that we have begun this new campaign with the same effort with which we completed the last contest. This is crucial to maintaining momentum. You are also aware that bowling in the final few overs is the hardest, but we have Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf on our side as experts in this area."
1:15 AM IST: What a terrific game we had here in Multan. The game that has gone down to the wire. But it is the defending champions Lahore Qalandars who hold their nerve to win this game by 1 run. The Multan Sultans came so close to the target, but fell short by the barest of margins.

Chasing a stiff target of 176 for the win, Multan Sultans got off to a blazing start courtesy of their openers Mohammad Rizwan and Shan Masood. The duo put on 100 for the first wicket with Masood scoring 35 off 31 balls. Mohammad Rizwan was the star performer with his 75 off 50 balls. David Miller struggled in his 25 off 20 balls. Kieron Pollard scored 20 off 12 balls. Khushdil Shah tried with his 12* off 6 balls. But it was a bridge too far as they fell short by 1 run. 7 extras were given by the fielding side.

Skipper Shaheen Shah Afridi was magnificent with his 1/27 in 4 overs. Haris Rauf went for 37 runs and picked up a wicket. Zaman Khan picked up a wicket and went for 29 runs in 4 overs. Hussain Talat picked up the other wicket for 16 runs in 2 overs.

Earlier in the game, Lahore Qalandars put into bat first, rode on a magnificent innings from Fakhar Zaman to get to 175/6 in 20 overs. Fakhar top-scored with 66 off 42 balls. Tahir Baig chipped in with 32 off 26 balls. Shai Hope scored 19 off 17 balls. Sikandar Raza was unbeaten on 19* off 14 balls. Hussain Talat scored 20 off 12 balls. 11 extras were given by the fielding side.

Usama Mir was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2/25 in 4 overs. A couple of wickets for Ihsanullah as he went for 37 runs in 4 overs. A wicket apiece for Akeal Hosein and Shahnawaz Dahani who went the distance today.

So, a win by 1 run for the Lahore Qalandars to kickstart PSL Season 8. Stick around for the post-match presentation ceremony that comes your way soon.

4 FOURRR MORE! WHAT A CLOSE ENCOUNTER WE ARE WITNESSING HERE! Goes full length, a tad outside off. Shah squeezes it away over the infield again to the deep point region for a boundary. Lahore triumphed in a nail-biting thriller by one run!
19.5 Z Khan to K Shah
4 FOURRR! MUCH NEEDED A BOUNDARY! Fuller delivery and wide of off. Shah leans forward and goes inside out over the cover to the vacant deep cover region to pickup a boundary.
19.4 Z Khan to K Shah
1W WICKETT! RUN-OUT! Usama pays the price this time. Fuller delivery, on the middle stump line. Shah drills it uppishly over the bowler's head down the ground. Khushdil wants a second run. Usman is running on the dangerous end as he finds himself short of his ground at the bowler's end. Dawson on the deep throws it to the bowler who does the rest.
19.4 Z Khan to U Mir
1wd Shaping away outside the tramline, Usama left that alone. The umpire signals a wide and the batter sneaks a run.

W WICKET! LBW! A loud appeal for LBW and up goes the finger straightaway. Khan takes a review. Full toss delivery, darted into the middle stump line. Usman looks to pull but misses it and deflects on the thigh pads. Ultraedge shows no bat is involved while ball tracking shows three reds light. Lahore Qalandars are on a roll here.
