That's it from the first ODI between Bangladesh and England which saw the visitors coming out on top in a thriller thanks to a Dawid Malan special. Both teams will be back in action on Friday for the second ODI. Do join us for that game and for all other cricketing action across the globe in our network. For now, this is Ayan Chatterjee signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Srivathsa alongside scorer/analyst Bishal Mandal. Stay safe, happy, and cool. Goodnight and CHEERS!
Jos Buttler (England Captain): "It was not an easy task. This was the toughest conditions for us to face as a group. It was tough and we came out on top. Proud of Dawid Malan. There was plenty in the wicket for pacers and spinners. We gave away too many extras and did not hit the right lines and lengths I felt. It was tough. Yes, there are plenty of areas to work on and improve. A quick turnaround for us and hopefully, we learn character from this game. These games teach you a lot than flat pitches."
Dawid Malan (Player of the Match): "Yes I have spent a fair bit of time here at the ground. It was not easy out there. 30-40 more runs would have been tough for us chasing. I think we did well to keep them down and got over the line. The wicket was such that we expected it. Bangladesh did well and gave us pressure and we handled it well. The lower order did well as well not to mention. Happy with the win."
Tamim Iqbal | Bangladesh skipper: "I thought the position we were in, we could have at least gotten 30-35 runs more. We didn't start that well but got a good partnership through the middle overs, and then lost three quick wickets at the end, I think that was crucial. We bowled really well and fielded extremely well. But sometimes, you need to give it to an innings like the one Malan played. As I said, one man's innings made the difference. We know that if we have runs on the board, we have the bowling to defend them.
7:22 PM IST: So, we have had a thriller of a game here in Mirpur. A game where the pendulum swung to and fro and in the end, it was England who held their nerves courtesy of Dawid Malan to win the game by 3 wickets. Bangladesh tried their best and made a match out of it. But they did not bat out their full quota of 50 overs and paid the price.

Chasing a gettable 210 on a difficult track, England lost Jason Roy early in the first over. Phil Salt scored 12 off 19 balls before he perished. James Vince and Jos Buttler went early. But it was the Dawid Malan show as he played one of his best knocks so far. He held the innings together at Number 3 and brought the side home. He remained unbeaten on 114 off 145 balls. He weathered the storm at the start and played through the end. Will Jacks scored 26. Moeen Ali scored 14 off 32 at a critical time. Special mention to Adil Rashid as he played a crucial unbeaten 17* off 29 balls under pressure to be the supporting role for Malan, The target was achieved in 48.4 overs.

Taijul Islam was the pick of the Bangladesh bowlers scalping 3 wickets for 54 runs in 10 overs. A couple of wickets for Mehidy Hasan Miraz who gave away just 35 runs in 10 overs. Taskin and Shakib picked up a wicket each. The bowlers tried their best, but just had less runs on the board one felt.

Earlier in the game, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first. They lost Litton Das early. Tamim got a start before giving it away for 23. Najmul Hossain Shanto played well for his 58 as he held the innings together. Keeper batter Mushfiqur Rahim scored 16. Mahmudullah Riyad did well for his 31 off 48 balls. Taskin got 14 while Taijul got 10 runs. Loads of extras were given by the English bowlers but they did well to keep the score down to 209 in 47.2 overs.

All the English bowlers bowled well apart from the extras. All the English bowlers wickets. A couple of wickets apiece for Jofra Archer, Mark Wood, Moeen Ali, and Adil Rashid. A wicket each for Chris Woakes and debutant Will Jacks.

So, a win for England by 3 wickets. Stick around for the presentations.
48.4 Shanto to D Malan
4 FOUR! That's it! Short of a length here, Malan pulls it away through the mid-on region for a boundary as the ball races away to the long-on fence for a boundary. Malan hits the wining runs as England wins this game by 3 wickets with 8 balls to spare to take a 1-0 lead in this 3-match series.
