So a massive defeat for India at home. Tough pill to swallow, but a brilliant week in the office for Steven Smith, the captain. The lead of India in this 4-match series has been reduced to 1-2. We will be going to Ahmedabad for the fourth and final Test on March 9.

Steven Smith (Australia Captain): "Yeah, everything I think. Right from losing the toss, we might have been on the back foot, but we bowled well to push them. Matthew Kuhnemann was outstanding in the first-innings. Nathan Lyon as always was spot-on in both innings'. Usman batted well for us. See, they did bowl decently. Umesh was excellent for them. Todd Murphy was brilliant going just one an over in his first 10-odd overs. I like to do captaincy in this part of the world. See, Pat Cummins had to go back home since his mother is ill. Thoughts with him. I believe I have a good understanding of the complexities. It's a place I enjoy going to, and I think I did a good job this week. The approach will be similar. We'll have to wait and see what the conditions are. It's great to be in the WTC final, but it all comes down to playing good cricket. Hopefully, we'll be able to finish the series well."

Rohit Sharma (India Captain): "We did not start well in the first innings, We understand how important it is to put runs on the first innings. When they posted an 80-90 runs lead, we failed to put on a good score in the second innings also. Had we batted a lot better, chances would be better.
Honestly, we haven't thought about it [on tracks]. We have time to think about it. We will regroup. We need to understand that no matter what the pitches are, we need to come and do the job. When we were playing on challenging pitches, we cannot allow the bowlers to bowl at the particular areas.
We have to be brave and challenge the bowlers. It can happen like that, One odd game can happen where things are not falling in place altogether. This game was like that. We wanted a few guys to chip up and things didn't happen. You can falter in your plans and this is what happened here. We were not up to the mark."

Earlier in the Test, the decision to bat first backfired on India as they were skittled out for a mere 109 runs in 33.2 overs. Despite surviving a couple of chances in the first over of the match, Rohit Sharma eventually got out playing a reckless shot from where the collapse began. Matthew Kuhnemann was the wrecker in chief of this downfall who finished with his career-best figures of 9-2-16-5. Nathan Lyon supported Kuhnemann with a three-wickets haul. India were 84/7 at lunch on day 1, and due to a quick cameo of Umesh Yadav, the side breached the 100-run mark.
Australia too lost Travis Head very early in their first innings, but a strong gritty second-wicket partnership between Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne of 96 runs. Team India was poor with the reviews and field settings during this period, easing the pressure on this duo. 10:47 AM IST | The World Number one Test batter finishes it in style as Australia beat India at their home ground by 9 wickets to take the side through to World Test Championship (WTC) final to be played at the Oval in June! Meanwhile, this is just the third Test loss for India at home in the last 45 matches.
Chasing a small yet tricky target of 76 runs to win, Australia lost Usman Khawaja in just the second delivery of the day as the spin mastermind of India, Ravichandran Ashwin eked out an outside edge to send him packing for a silver duck.
Marnus Labuschagne (28*) and Travis Head (49*) batted very patiently in the first ten overs to down the shoulders of the Indian players. Then both counter-attacked to add an unbeaten partnership of 78 runs for the second wicket and helped the side to reduce the Indian lead in the series down to 1-2.

4 FOURRRR!! And here comes the winning runs, off the bat of Marnus Labuschagne. Full and outside the off-stump line. Marnus prods forward and slogs it over the inner circle, to the right of long-on region. He falls over a bit to get underneath the bounce but does the needful for his side. Labuschagne is jubilant and roars up. Australia are still alive in the series (for the draw) and the series stands 2-1. With this, Australia saves the ticket to the finals of the World Test Championship.
