That's it from this India-Pakistan clash which the Women in Blue came out on top. Don't go too far away as another game comes our way between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka at Cape Town. Do join us for this game and for all other fixtures around the globe in our network. For now, this is Ayan Chatterjee signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Megh Mandaliya alongside scorer/analyst Yogesh Kumar. Stay safe, happy, and cool. Goodnight and CHEERS!
Harmanpreet Kaur (India Women Captain): "I think it was a good game. Pakistan batted well and would have wanted to win this game. Richa and Jemi played sensibly and we won that. Yes, they are there and are a nucleaus of the side. I am happy with the win. Every game is important and we want to win all the games. I think we will iron out our flaws and come back stronger in the next game with full vigour and energy. Hope to get the win as we are here to win."
Bismah Maroof (Pakistan Women Captain): "We were in the game all the time I guess. We made a couple of mistakes with the bowl and we will try to comeback in the next game. Of course, Naseem played a critical knock and that partnership was crucial in the middle."
Jemimah Rodrigues  (Player of the Match): "I don't know what to say. We had to build partnership and take it deep. Had a good partnership with my captain. I will cherish this innings and this means a lot to me. I dedicate this to my parents. We were going over by over and wanted to take deep. We took singles and in the end got the job done. It was a good wicket. A little slow and good for the set batters. That's why important partnerships with Harman and Richa helped as well. I think we will let this sink in and celebrate today. But the tournament has just begun and we want to do well under pressure. Next up is West Indies and looking forward to it."
9:41 PM IST | Megh: Heaps of blue shirts rise in the stands as India has started their T20 World Cup 2023 campaign in a belligerent fashion here at the Newlands. They have hammered their arch-rivals Pakistan by 7 wickets, and as always the Indian spectators are on their feet. The women in blue continue to tyrannize their neighbors and they have a sparkling lead of 5-2 now against them in the T20 World Cup.

In pursuit of a challenging total of 150, the Indian openers Yastika Bhatia and Shafali Verma started on a positive note by orchestrating boundaries at regular intervals inside the powerplay. However, the 38-run opening partnership was ceased by Sadia Iqbal by removing the southpaw for Bhatia for 17(20). The U-19 skipper Shafali Verma continued her unhurried approach but has to walk back for 33(25), courtesy of a sensational catch from Ameen. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur tried to hurry up the innings but Nashra Sandhu halted her progress on 16(12) and handed the momentum to Pakistan.

Following Kaur’s wicket, the onus was upon Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh to provide a resurgence to the Indian innings. The duo adjusted to the conditions and endured pressure. However, the Pakistan bowlers couldn’t keep them quiet for a long time. The assault at the backend was commenced by Richa Ghosh and Jemimah Rodrigues also followed her. 6 boundaries were swatted in the last two overs and the pair completely knocked over India’s nemesis. Richa Ghosh secured 31*(20), including 5 fours, and Rodrigues orchestrated a famous half-century of 53*(38), with the help of 8 fours.  Eventually, the unbeaten 58-run partnership between the pair handed a comprehensive victory to the women in blue.

Earlier in the day, after electing to bat first on a sluggish Newlands surface, Deepti Sharma manufactured an early breakthrough for India by dismissing Javeria Khan 8(6) with a half-tracker. Skipper Bismah Maroof, the batter in, then got together with Muneeba Ali and supplied the much-needed acceleration to the innings. The southpaw Maroof was looking in sublime touch and brought out some captivating sweeps.

The duo took Pakistan to 39 at the end of the powerplay but Radha Yadav ceased their progress by outwitting Ali for 12(14). That was soon followed by a massive wicket of Nida Dar 0(2), who edged one to the keeper. Tottering at 68/4, the young Ayesha Naseem joined forces with Maroof and the duo completely changed the course of the game. Naseem was the leading figure in the partnership and accelerated the innings while Maroof also completed her half-century.

The 81-run partnership between the duo cruised Pakistan to a competitive total in the end. Maroof stitched a well-composed 68*(75), while Ayesha went all guns blazing and swatted 43*(25), including 2 fours and 2 maximums. Radha Yadav extracted two crucial wickets by leaking only 21 runs while Deepi Sharma and Pooja Vastrakar also attained scalp each. Stick around for the post-match presentation!

What a magnificent way to complete your half-century. Take a bow, Rodrigues. This is now the highest run-chase by India in the World T20. Second highest overall in the competition. That is comprehensive from India. They have knocked over their arch-rivals by 7 wickets.
