Sussex had it in the bag until the powerplay but failed to keep up with the required run rate once the wickets started to tumble. It was a cracker of a game, Essex held their nerves and made now have made it to the next round. That's it from us, I am Ovaise Shariff singing off alongside co-commentator Arya Sekhar Chakraborty and scorer/analyst Subhro. Good bye and Good night!!
Ovaise: Adam Rossington and debutant Robin Das walked out to open the batting for Essex and took them off to a blistering start, Rossington was severe on anything short, the outfield was lighting quick and the bowlers knew right from the get-go that it was going to be a hard day at the office. Delray Rawlins and Steven Finn opened the bowling for Sussex and were slightly wayward allowing Adam to get his eyes in. Just after the powerplay ended, in the 7th over Das was dismissed by Rawlins and Kyle Pepper the man in form for Essex was sent back to the dressing room on a duck by the Magician from Afghanistan!!

Dan Lawrence joined Rossington who was going in his merry way, hammering the bowlers all around the park. Lawerence's stay was short in the middle as he too made his way back to the dressing room on just 1, followed by Walters!! In spite of losing partners, Adam Rossington kept hitting it to all parts, notched up his 50 and was whizzing his way towards his first T20 century.

Essex were 94-4 in 11 overs when Tom Westley walked into the middle and with Rossington stitched up a much-needed partnership and steadied things after the mini-collapse. Adam Rossington fell 5 short of a magnificent 100 and Westley got 50 of 30 and powered Essex to a huge total of 197!! It was going to be a stiff chase but Sussex fancied their chances at the halfway mark on a flat-looking surface!!
Arya- The run-chase was always going to be a tricky one for Sussex. A required rate close to 10 is never easy for any team irrespective of the conditions but the way Alistair Orr and Joshua Philippe got them off to a flying start, it promised to be an entertaining run-chase. Alistair Orr struck Daniel Sams for 25 runs in his first over which allowed Sussex to make full use of the powerplay.

After missing a few, Philippe also joined the act, smashing some exquisite shots before perishing on the score of 17. Alistair Orr was playing a wonderful hand and in came Harrison Ward who gave him good support. He was batting sensibly while Orr was going all guns blazing. It was his wicket which turned the game on it's head as Sussex could never really press on the accelerator towards the end overs.

When Alistair Orr was dismissed, Sussex was well placed at 82/2 in less than 8 overs. Even when Ward had to head back the pavilion, there were well over the DLS par score. Skipper Ravi Bopara played a great hand but the batters around him really struggled to get in terms with the pace and eventually, it was a mountain too steep to climb for Sussex.

Daniel Sams bounced back with a bang in his second spell as he prized out three crucial wickets to break the run-chase. He changed the pace to perfection and much like the rival skipper Bopara, he used the slower deliveries very well. Eventually in the end, it was an easy victory for Essex by 28 runs.
Arya- Essex wins by 28 runs and it is a comfortable victory in the end. However Sussex was bossing the game at the halfway stage of the run-chase but it was a great bowling effort towards the end, which totally tilted the scales in the favour of Essex and eventually defended their score comfortably.
