Milestone
That brings an end to our coverage for this game. Don't go anywhere as the clash between India and Netherlands starts shortly. For now, this is Akshay Bhide, signing off, on behalf of my co-commentator Akshayakrishna Polya and scorer Zeeshan Naiyer. Tata. Bye bye.
Rilee Rossouw is the Player of the Match.
Akshay: A solid all-round performance from South Africa sees them defeat Bangladesh comprehensively. On the back of a sensational ton from Rilee Rossouw, South Africa posted a mammoth total on the board which they defended successfully to win the game by 104 runs. With this, the Proteas grab their first win of the T20 World Cup 2022 and boosted their net run rate.

Chasing a mammoth total, Bangladesh’s openers took on Kagiso Rabada in the opening over. They scored 17 in the first over. They were looking good in the middle but Anrich Nortje wreaked havoc in Bangladesh’s camp with his extra pace. He dismissed both the openers in the third over. He trapped Shakib on one in front of the stumps in his second over. Bangladesh were reduced to 47/4 at the end of the powerplay.

The South African bowlers bowled beautifully and Bangladesh’s batters struggled to get going. The batters failed to adapt to the conditions as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals and as a result, the required run rate kept climbing up. Litton Das top-scored with 34 for Bangladesh but they got bundled out on 101 in 16.3 overs to lose the game by 104 runs. Anrich Nortje for South Africa finished with figures of 4/10 in 3.3 overs, the best by a South African in the T20 World Cups. Tabraiz Shamsi also chipped in with three scalps as they completed a big win over Bangladesh.

Earlier in the day, South Africa opted to bat first. Skipper Temba Bavuma was dismissed in the very first over by Taskin Ahmed. What followed was a batting masterclass from Rilee Rossouw. He played positively and took on the bowling from the word go. He along with Quinton de Kock put up a solid partnership for the second wicket. Both brought up their respective fifties.

Rossouw hit some fantastic strokes and Bangladesh’s bowlers were hit all around the park. The highest-ever stand of 168 runs in T20 World Cups history came to an end when de Kock departed on 63 off 38 balls. There was no stopping Rossouw from the other end as he hit some lusty blows and brought up his second T20I ton. He departed on 109 off 56 balls as it helped the South African side post a mammoth 205 on the board. Bangladesh picked up five wickets in total, with Shakib Al Hasan finishing with two. Their batters failed to step up as they lose the game by 104 runs after getting knocked over on 101.
