Milestone
So, that is it from me, Anurag Singh, and my co-commentators, Dasgupta and Vikhyat. Do join OneCricket's live coverage of the eliminator coming up in half n hour’s time.
Mohammad Rizwan: It was a semi-final and we had a lot of pressure on us. The momentum shifted after a few quick wickets in the third over and Tanvir bowled extremely well. We wanted to keep things simple and wanted the boys to be calm with their approach. The momentum we got towards the end with the bat was key and we picked up on that and hopefully we will win the trophy.
Sohail Tanvir: When we were batting, the slowers one was sticking on to the pitch and we decided in between the innings to bowl the slower ones effectively. And luckily our plans worked and they failed to read the slower ones. Credit to all the bowlers as they did extremely well.
Sohail Tanvir is the Player of the Match award and he gets a cheque of PKR 750,000.
Johnson Charles gets the Safe Hands of the Match award and a cheque of PKR 400,000.
Sohaib Maqsood gets the smart Player of the Match award and a cheque of PKR 400,000.
Khawaja was brilliant showing all his experience in this crucial fixture. He took some time to get set and changed gears after gears as United edged closer to the target. The southpaw destroyed Blessing Muzarbani in the 14th over which completely shifted the momentum. Sohail Tanvir brought into the attack in the 15th over to provide a crucial breakthrough and he scalped the huge wicket of Usman Khawaja. Suddenly, Islamabad’s hopes shattered and the boundaries started to dry up. After the wicket of Hasan Ali, the tail-enders tried their best against a quality death attack of Sultans but eventually fell down one by one trying for the big shots.
Islamabad United started poorly losing the early wicket of their premier batsman, Colin Munro in the first over which started the collapse of them. Munro was soon followed by Akhlaq and the skipper in the third over by some extraordinary bowling from the veteran Sohail Tanvir. A small partnership from Khawaja and Iftikhar tried to resurrect Islamabad’s innings but the pressure was being built and eventually, in search of a boundary, Iftikhar threw his wicket away. Asif Ali followed his countrymate just after as he was dismissed by a trademark Tahir’s leggie.
Impressive finish from the Sultans in the first innings! An innings that received the middle-overs muscle looked like it'd taper off. A quickfire 63-run stand between Maqsood and Charles, however, turned things around and set them up for a big finish, only to be dealt with a double blow in the span of 2 overs. Both Maqsood and Charles got out trying to up the ante which meant the Sultans could only muster 29 runs between 13-18 overs. Khushdil looked very rusty scoring at run-a-ball in his first 15 deliveries but found his hitting range and clouted four sixes in an expensive 29-run penultimate over off Akif Javed to get them to 180.
And with that, it’s the end of the first knockout stage fixture of the sixth edition of the PSL, and Multan Sultans directly jump into the finals after a well-deserved victory against Islamabad United. It has been a rollercoaster of a game and finally after two defeats, Sultans win against Shadab and co by 31 runs and in the most important match for them.
18.6 B Muzarabani to A Javed
W It's all over and we have our first finalists of PSL 2021, hugs all around for Multan's and they have been clinical today. Was a slower bumper around-off, Javed swung his bat in the hope to pull it but ends up piling it up in the air to the covers and the fielder could have taken that catch with even closed eyes.
18.5 B Muzarabani to F Ashraf
W WICKET!!! What a catch from Johnson Charles in the deep, was a fuller length delivery wide of off, Ashraf throws his sink at it and slices it in the air to the deep covers fielder where Charles take a good catch as the ball was dipping onto him
18.4 B Muzarabani to H Talat
1 Full and wide, driven hard but straight to the covers, will get a single only
18.3 B Muzarabani to F Ashraf
1b Quick bumper surprising the batsman, Ashraf was lat on the pull shot as he misses it to the keeper, but the non-striker came running in and plundered a single
18.2 B Muzarabani to F Ashraf
0 Ashraf premeditates his ramp shot, but Muzarabani throws it wide of his reach on the off-side, Ashraf misses it
18.1 B Muzarabani to H Talat
1 Wide low full-toss, sliced past point for a single
