So that's all from here today. Like always it was a pleasure bringing the live commentary and match updates for you. Till the next time, adieus my dear friends from me, Arya Sekhar Chakraborty and my co-commentator Akshay Bhide. Stay tuned for tomorrow's high octane clash between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Chennai Super Kings. Tata and Good night
So Mumbai gets it spot on yet again. They thoroughly outplayed Rajasthan Royals in all the departments to seal their 4th victory of the tournament. They are currently occupying the top spot in the points table. Still early days in the tournament but this MI side will be very tough to beat going forward in this IPL.
Suryakumar Yadav | Man of the match: I felt it was coming in this game, because in the last few games I was finding ways to get out. This time I just wanted to bat till the end. Loving the added responsibility at the top of the order, and I've just been told to play my game and express myself and I did just that. The lockdown helped me with my off-side game rather than just my leg-side pick-up shot. The team winning is really satisfying and at that situation I had to bat till the end to get the team to a perfect total, and then the bowlers came and finished things off.
Rohit Sharma | MI Captain: We strive to be out there and play well. WE have a lot of quality and it's about getting the job done. They all have a lot of confidence. They're all talented and they can take the game away on their day and it's all falling into place. The conditions are helpful here for the quick bowlers. It was nipping around to start with and it's good to have bowlers who can exploit the conditions. We also worked a lot on our fielding, because it's one of the controllables in the game and we made it a point to do that well. A good Surya innings was coming, I spoke to him before the game, and his shot selection was perfect today. We wanted him to bat till the end because he can innovate rather well.
Trent Boult: Whole pack is working together. Clear game plan. The way we've picked wickets early. It's pretty enjoyable to get another win. Always challenged with quality players. Every franchise intimidates you a little bit. Would love to see the ball swinging a bit more at the top. Hasn't been a feature of this tournament. Hopefully will get to see it.
Steve Smith | Losing captain: I think losing wickets early doesn't help, we haven't been able to get off to a good start in the last three games. Outside of Jos and Archer at the end, we have a bit of work to do on our batting. He (Stokes) is not out till the 10th I think. He is not too far away, hopefully we can get a few wins before he's back and then gain momentum. I don't think we need to panic too much, it is just about implementing our plans and playing some good cricket for longer. We haven't been able to do that in the last three games and we have to turn it around quickly. Hopefully get a bit of momentum.
Suryakumar Yadav is the Man of the Match for his heroic knock of 79 of 47 deliveries.
Trent Boult is the Cred Powerplayer of the Match. Boult bowled 3 overs in the powerplay taking two wickets for just 17 runs
Jos Buttler gets the Unacademy Lets Crack it Sixes Award
Jofra Archer is the Altros Super Striker of the Match for his strike of 218.
Jasprit Bumrah is the Dream11 Game Changer of the game. He bagged 114 fantasy points
The architect of MI's innings was Suryakumar Yadav who looked in sublime touch from the outset. During the latter stages of the innings, he struck some exceptional pick up shots and the scoop towards the 3rd man region of Jofra Archer which went for a six was something extraordinary. He was struck in the helmet the earlier ball and he responded in a terrific fashion after the concussion test. Hardik Pandya also played struck some lusty blows towards the back end as MI ended up scoring 193 at the end of their allotted 20 overs.
Earlier in the day it was the Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma who won the toss and opted to bat. Given the trend this IPL it was a sensible decision from Rohit. MI began pretty well as Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock found the boundaries on a consistent basis. It was debutant Kartik Tyagi who bagged his maiden wicket in his very first over of Quinton de Kock. Rohit Sharma after playing a good knock was dismissed by Shreyas Gopal and in the very next delivery Ishan Kishan had a brain fade moment and was dismissed for a golden duck. Mahela Jayawerdene was visibly unhappy with Ishan's antics.
Jasprit Bumrah was quite exceptional and put his critics to rest with the best bowling figures this season. He finished with figures of 4/20 and was provided ample support by Trent Boult and James Pattinson who bagged a couple of wickets each. Rahul Chahar bowled well but Krunal was a bit expensive. The highlights of the match were the screamer of a catch from substitute fielder Anukul Roy. Towards the later half of the innings, even Pollard showed his outfield skills with a stunning boundary line catch.
Chasing a score in excess of 190 against a quality MI bowling attack was always going to be a difficult proposition for RR. They needed a great start but the top order was just blown away by Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah. Youngster Yashashvi Jaiswal went early and a procession followed. With the wickets of Steve Smith and Sanju Samson, RR was put in the backfoot and could never really recover from there. Buttler waged a lone battle and plundered the MI for a knock of 70. His dismissal was the final nail in the coffin for RR as MI tightened their screws and ended up comfortable winners by 57 runs.
So a thoroughly dominating performance from the Mumbai Indians as they thrash Rajasthan Royals by 57 runs to go atop the points table. Right from the word go, Mumbai Indians started bossing the game and in the end the star studded bowling line-up was just too good for the RR as they were literally blown away. Barring a Jos Buttler masterclass, RR was always behind the eight ball game and had to play catch up. After the dismissal of Buttler, it was always going to be tough for RR given the quality of the MI pace attack.
18.1 James Pattinson to Ankit Rajpoot
W So that's it, MI are victorious, back of a length delivery from Pattinson, Rajpoot moves away and slices this straight to the cover fielder, a thoroughly comprehensive performance in the end. What a great effort by the most successful team of IPL
