Player Bio

Another big tall all-rounder from Western Australia, Ashton Turner offers a lot. He is a high-prolific middle-order hitter, a handy off-break bowler, an exceptional fielder and a future leader.

Turner’s claim to fame came during Australia’s tour of India in 2019, where he smashed a match-winning 84 not out from 43 balls - while chasing a mammoth target of 359 against a fiery Indian bowling attack.

Born in Perth, the all-rounder came through the ranks of the age-group system and is a byproduct of the Fremantle Cricket Club. Initially, Turner used to play mainly as an off-spinner and toured India with the Australian U-19 team in late 2011. At the 2012 U-19 World Cup, he was Australia's first-choice spinner.

As his career progressed, Turner emerged to be a high-prolific all-rounder. He made his WA debut in the JLT One-Day Cup in February 2013, belting a quickfire half-century. Later that year, he made his Sheffield Shield debut. The lanky Western Australian was also sent to the UK on a Hampshire scholarship, in his early days.

Soon Turner became an integral part of the Western Australia set-up and was named vice-captain of the side in 2017, before getting captain’s hat at the back end of the 2017-18 Shield season.

Following that year, after announcing himself at the world stage, Turner bagged a big-money contract with Rajasthan Royals for the 2018 IPL. However, his IPL caravan didn't have anything to write as he registered three back-to-back ducks playing in the extravaganza league.

Although the lanky all-rounder has got immense success in the Big Bash League. Turner has been a pivotal player for the Perth Scorchers and has led them to the final during the tenth edition of the league.

Turner would be eyeing for another impeccable BBL season for the Scorchers, both as a player and a captain, that would help him receive another Australia call-up.
