Player Bio

Bounce, swing, and a handy bat, Craig Overton is a tall angry fast bowler and a natural striker of the ball. Part of the u-19 World Cup squad in 2012, he made his first-class debut playing for Somerset against Lancashire in the same year. By the end of his debut season, he was named the ‘Somerset Academy Player of the Year’.

During the same winter, he was selected for the England Lions tour to Australia where he performed well. Sadly, a stress fracture of the back prevented Craig from playing in all but one match in 2013. Regaining full fitness Overton made great strides in 2013 amassing 431 runs in 13 first-class matches with the highest score of 99 and struck 42 wickets with a best of 6 for 74.

Craig went from strengths to strengths and 2017 saw him progress his game to the next level playing in virtually every game in all formats. In the County Championship, he took 46 wickets, and in Vitality Blast, Craig claimed 15 wickets and was Somerset’s leading wicket-taker in the Royal London One Day Cup.

His hard work paid off when he got his maiden callup in the T20 team for their series against South Africa but unfortunately, he didn’t get to play. Craig made his Test Match debut in the 2017-18 Ashes series and made a name for himself as a prolific all-rounder, top-scoring with an unbeaten 41 in England’s first innings, and took the prized wicket of Steve Smith as his maiden scalp in Test cricket.

Another impressive season passed by for the Devon-born as he managed 45 wickets and was placed second in the overall MVP list by the end of 2019. Having represented England in just one Test match and 4 T20Is, the 27-year old sends a timely reminder to the English selectors every now and then for a place in the playing XI.
