Player Bio

A talented middle-order batsman, Zubayr Hamza is a professional South African cricketer who is a proud product of the renowned Rondebosch Boys High School (RBHS) program. A consistent performer for Western Province age group teams, Hamza earned the captaincy at the U-19 level for the 2013-14 season and enjoyed a handful of games for the senior side by the end of the season.

Hamza came into the limelight in October 2015 when he struck 202 against Namibia in just his third first-class match and joined an exclusive list of teenage double centurions in the South African domestic game. After failing to score a century in the entire 2016-17 domestic season, he bounced back in style, racking up an astonishing 1203 runs in 2017-18, and earning a call-up to South Africa A.

Hamza made his debut in the final Test of Pakistan’s tour to South Africa in January 2019 and scored 41 in the first innings before being removed for a second-ball duck in the second. Having been named in South Africa’s white-ball team for the first time, he would be looking to make an impact against the associate Dutch side in the absence of senior players.
