WATCH | Sohail Tanvir and Ben Cutting show explicit gesture at each other; latter takes vengeance from 2018

The game between Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi at Gaddafi Stadium at Lahore on Tuesday saw another ugly clash between old foes Sohail Tanvir and Ben Cutting. The Australian all-rounder and Pakistani pacer might be looking at receiving a fine for their explicit gesture at each other. The incident took place in the 19th over of the 1st innings, when Cutting smashed Tanvir to all corners of the ground, smashing three consecutive sixes. Earlier, in the 2018 edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), the two were at loggerheads during a game between St. Kitts and Nevis and Guyana Amazon Warriors. After being hit for six straight down the ground, Tanvir came back and yorked the Australian, giving him an obscene send-off. However, Cutting returned the favour at Lahore in the ongoing tournament, after smashing him for three consecutive sixes. The left-arm pacer seemed to be miffed with Cutting’s gesture and the two even had a conversation on the latter's follow-through. Then, after his breezy knock of 36 off 14 balls, the Sydney Thunder dasher was eventually dismissed off Naseem Shah’s short-pitched delivery. Tanvir again made the explicit gesture at Cutting. Watch the video here: Coming to the game, the Zalmis eventually won the match by 24 runs after posting a score of 185/7. The Gladiators could only manage to reach 161/8.

BBL 2021: Adam Zampa anchors Melbourne Stars to thrilling win against Sydney Thunder

Melbourne Stars stole away a win in a nail-biter against Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League clash in Melbourne, courtesy some brilliant bowling from Adam Zampa in the final over. Needing 11 in the last over of the innings, while chasing 166, the Thunder side could only manage to get six runs. The equation was down to 5 needed off the last ball with Cutting on strike. Zampa bowled a flat leg break and Cutting didn’t connect the square cut as the Stars took away the win. Earlier, the Thunder side had lost a couple of early wickets during the chase but an 89-run stand for the third wicket between Matthew Gikes and Sam Billings brought them back in the hunt. But Billings eventually departed for 43 off 31 and his dismissal certainly broke the shackles as Sydney lost a couple of more wickets in a quick succession reducing them to 135/5 in the 18th over. Later, Ross and Cutting made sure that there weren’t any further fall of wickets but couldn’t manage to take the team over the line. Melbourne Stars on the other side, rode on some good batting from Nick Larkin, Cartwright and Andre Russell to put 165/4 in 20 overs. While Larkin struck an unbeaten fifty, Cartwright scored 42, Russell chipped in with a 9-ball 17* during the course. Larkin lavished praise on Adam Zampa to win the match for the side in the end. “Wrecked. It was probably their game for most of the chase but our bowlers held their nerve. He (Zampa) wanted the ball and took it out of Maxi's hands. I struggled for the first 20-odd balls and then the Power Surge helped,” he said after the match. The two teams will now face each other in Sydney on Sunday.

PSL 6: Wildermuth, Weatherald, Faulkner and Ferguson among eight Aussies heading for UAE

PSL 6: Wildermuth, Weatherald, Faulkner and Ferguson among eight Aussies heading for UAE

After a great deal of work done by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), finally, the twenty remaining games of the Pakistan Super League will be played at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in UAE. To participate in that a group of eight Australian players including Jack Wildermuth, Jake Weatherald, Callum Ferguson and James Faulkner will travel to the UAE. Since the tournament had to be rescheduled twice and it clashed with theT20 Blast and the international series of South Africa and West Indies and also England and New Zealand, many of the players who had committed to play for the six franchises of the PSL, moved out and new layers through two separate drafts were pulled in. While Ben Cutting, Joe Burns, Dan Christian and Chris Lynn were the four Aussie players to pull out of the league, Weeatheraldm Wildermuth, Ferguson and Faulkner made up for it. Quetta Gladiators picked up both Adelaide Strikers’ Weatherald and Brisbane Heat’s Wildermuth after Ben Cutting, Faf du Plessis and Chris Gaye were unable to join the side. Lahore Qalandar went on to add Sydney Thunder skipper Callum Ferguson as well as two of Hobart Hurricanes’ members Tim David and James Faulkner. Cutting, 34, who has been in various bubbles ver since November 30, the start of the Big bash League 2020-21, was willing to play his part in the PSL for Quetta. The Brisbane-born had even travelled to UAE after IPL was suspended. Since PCB wasn’t able to make any substantial gain in being able to pull of the league by June 1, as planned, the all-rounder returned home. "I love the PSL and playing for Quetta but in the current climate of bio bubbles and quarantine, it's difficult to do everything," Cutting was quoted as saying to cricket.com.au. "I have come home to refresh, reset and get back into things again at whatever tournament pops up next," he added. Along with the five new recruits, others such as Ben Dunk, Fawad Ahmed and Usman Khawaja will also join their original teams. While the PSL has decreased the number of foreign players required in the XI from three to two, the squad sizes have been increased to 20 players. The league is yet to make an official schedule for the tournament’s training 20 games. Australians in the Pakistan Super League Islamabad United: Fawad Ahmed, Usman Khawaja Lahore Qalandars: Tim David, Ben Dunk, James Faulkner, Callum Ferguson Quetta Gladiators: Jake Weatherald, Jack Wildermuth

PSL 6: Disdained Gladiators look for first win against buoyant Qalandars

PSL 6: Disdained Gladiators look for first win against buoyant Qalandars

After winning their opening encounter against the Peshawar Zalmi, the Qalandars have their next challenge waiting for them on the very next day. It is the Quetta Gladiators, who were humiliated by Karachi Kings in their previous encounter would face the Qalandar challenge at the National Stadium in Karachi. Gladiators excepting their leader to stand up to the challenge Sarfaraz Ahmed, the skipper of the Gladiators and the biggest leader and motivator in the side got out for just five runs and that too in a fashion, not usually associated with him. He made just 5 runs and his dismissal put off the entire team. It is thus important that he along with senior players like Chris Gayle, Ben Cutting and Mohammad Nawaz need to take up the responsibility and make sure they give enough confidence to young guns like Tom Banton and their three quicks to play their natural game. Qalandars look to polish their skills The Lahore team played a great game, but their chase was jittery nonetheless. Senior pros like Sohail Akhtar, Fakhar Zaman and overseas imports like David Wiese and Samit Patel need to bring out their best. Hadn’t it been for a Rashid Khan special, the Qalandars might have been staring down the barrel. Thus in the early phase of the game, the men from Lahore would want their mistakes to be rectified. Lahore Qalandars vs Quetta Gladiators: Match Details Match Number- 04 Date and Time: 22nd February, 07:30 pm IST, 07:00 pm Local, 02:00 pm GMT Venue- National Stadium, Karachi Broadcast and Live stream: Sony Six and Sony LIV Pitch Report The pitch for this game would be a used pitch only. In the last three games played at Karachi, all of them have been low scoring ones only. But that is not because of the slowness of the wicket, rather because of some brilliant display of bowling. The wickets here have had true bounce, it’s the lack of application from batsmen and some very serious pace of change from bowlers that have made the contests low scoring. Weather and Toss Karachi would have clear night skies for the game with a lot of dew on display. The skipper winning the toss would go for a bowl first without any doubt. Probable XIs Lahore Qalandars Fakhar Zaman, Sohail Akhtar (c), Agha Salman, Mohammad Hafeez, Ben Dunk (wk), Samit Patel, David Wiese, Rashid Khan, Ahmed Daniyal, Shaheen Afridi, Salman Mirza Quetta Gladiators Chris Gayle, Tom Banton, Saim Ayub, Sarfaraz Ahmed (c & wk), Azam Khan, Ben Cutting, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Hasnain, Usman Shinwari, Naseem Shah, Qais Ahmad Dream XI / Fantasy XI Chris Gayle, Tom Banton, Sohail Akhtar, Mohammad Hafeez (vc), Sarfaraz Ahmed (c & wk), Ben Cutting, Rashid Khan, Ahmed Daniyal, Mohammad Nawaz, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Hasnain

PSL 2021| Karachi vs Quetta: Babar Azam’s Kings eye victory against Sarfaraz Ahmed’s Gladiators to mark the start of PSL-6

PSL 2021| Karachi vs Quetta: Babar Azam’s Kings eye victory against Sarfaraz Ahmed’s Gladiators to mark the start of PSL-6

There couldn’t have been a better way to start the sixth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) than a face-off between the current and former captain of the Pakistan team. Current Pakistan skipper Babar Azam led Karachi Kings will be up against the former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed’s Quetta gladiators at the National Stadium in Karachi to start the PSL. This will be the second time when an entire season of the PSL is being hosted in Pakistan. The 2020 edition was the first such instance. However, the 2020 season couldn’t be completed as the Playoffs were postponed due to the covid-19 pandemic. This time around the Pakistan Cricket Board is all geared up to give a world-class treatment to one of the fastest-growing T20 leagues in the world. Well balanced Kings a hefty challenge for Gladiators The Karachi Kings is brimming with talent. On paper, it looks like a team to beat at the start of the tournament. The likes of Babar Azam, Colin Ingram and Dan Christian are some of the most sought after batsmen going around in league cricket. If they are combined with the bowling might of Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim alongside the all-round abilities of Mohammad Nabi, could be a dangerous combination for any opposition. The young guns in the form of Danis Aziz, Arshad Iqbal and Mohammad Ilyas could be handy as well and so could be the veteran opening batsman Sharjeel Khan. The cocktail of youth and experience and mixed readily with some brilliant foreign stars could make a team that would be very hard to beat. Young bowling unit of Gladiators, a sign of danger of Kings While Quetta Gladiators have great batsmen in their ranks in the form of skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed, Ben Cutting Faf du Plessis, who is in as a partial replacement for Chris Gayle and the dynamic Tom Banton. However it is their young bowling unit comprising of Naseem Shah, Mohammad Hasnain, Anwar Ali, Usman Shinwari, Mohammad Nawaz and Zahid Mahmood, that is hugely impressive. Among the six bowlers, you can pick any four and still on any given day, they have the capabilities to topple any batting lineup. Karachi Kings vs Quetta Gladiators: Match Details Match Number- 01 Date and Time: 20th February, 07:30 pm IST, 07:00 pm Local, 02:00 pm GMT Venue: National Stadium, Karachi Broadcast and Live Stream: Sony Ten and Sony LIV Pitch Report The Karachi pitch historically has favoured batters in the evening games. The average first innings score has been 173 while that in the second innings dips down to 130. This is evidence that the wicket gets slower as the match progresses. However, one thing that must be kept in mind is that the recent record is for matches which would start in the day time. This one will be an evening game and dew too will play its part. Also, since it is going to be a fresh wicket, most likely high scoring game will be on offer. Weather and Toss The skies are expected to be clear with no cloud cover predicted. The humidity is minimal sending signals that dew will be a possibility at the venue. If a captain wins the toss, he would most likely go for bowl first. Probable XIs Karachi Kings Babar Azam (c), Sharjeel Khan, Colin Ingram, Chadwick Walton (wk), Mohammad Nabi, Daniel Christian, Imad Wasim, Aamer Yamin, Mohammad Amir, Arshad Iqbal, Waqas Maqsood Quetta Gladiators Faf du Plessis, Tom Banton, Cameron Delport, Azam Khan, Sarfaraz Ahmed (c & wk), Ben Cutting, Anwar Ali, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Hasnain, Naseem Shah, Zahid Mahmood Fantasy XI Tips and Predictions Babar Azam (c), Tom Banton, Colin Ingram, Sarfaraz Ahmed (wk), Mohammad Nabi, Daniel Christian, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Hasnain, Naseem Shah

Top bargains from IPL 2021 mini auctions

The IPL 2021 mini auctions were concluded on Thursday with some of the players grabbing whooping amounts of money while few of the big names turned out to be surprise picks after they went for a lesser sum as expected. Here is a look at some of the players who turned out to be good bargains for the franchises. Steve Smith Former Australia captain Steve Smith was released by the Rajasthan Royals ahead of the mini auctions. The right-handed batsman became the first purchase of the day when he went to Delhi Capitals for Rs 2.2 Cr. Smith’s bid amount even surprised the DC co-owner. "It was just incredible to get Steve Smith. We are shocked about how he went only for Rs 2.2 crore, but to get a player of the calibre of Steve Smith, it's going to add a lot to our squad, a lot to our balance. His leadership, his batting, his experience, everything. Everyone associated with Delhi is just thrilled. We discussed Smith's name before the auction and we thought that he would go for much higher, so we had thought that if an opportunity arises, we will go for him, but we never anticipated actually getting him," Jindal said. Smith has been a part of Pune Warriors India, Rising Pune Supergiant and RR in the earlier editions. He has so far played a total of 95 IPL matches scoring 2333 runs at an average of over 35. DC Full Squad: Shreyas Iyer (c), Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant (wk), Shimron Hetmyer, Marcus Stoinis, Chris Woakes, R Ashwin, Axar Patel, Amit Mishra, Lalit Yadav, Pravin Dubey, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Ishant Sharma, Avesh Khan, Steve Smith, Umesh Yadav, Ripal Patel, Vishnu Vinod, Lukman Meriwala, M Siddarth, Tom Curran, Sam Billings Dawid Malan England opener Dawid Malan is probably the finest T20 batsman at the moment. The left-handed batsman went to Punjab Kings at the base price of Rs 1.5 Cr. This was one of the finest bids made by the Punjab franchise. Presently ranked at number one in the shortest format of the game, Malan has played 19 T20Is spring 855 runs at a strike rate of just under 150 and an average of 53.4. Punjab Kings Full Squad: KL Rahul, Chris Gayle, Mayank Agarwal, Mandeep Singh, Nicholas Pooran, Ishan Porel, Sarfaraz Khan, Murugan Ashwin, Deepak Hooda, Mohammed Shami, Chris Jordan, Ravi Bishnoi, Harpreet Brar, Prabhsimran Singh, Darshan Nalkande, Arshdeep Singh, Dawid Malan, Jhye Richardson, Shahrukh Khan, Riley Meredith, Moises Henriques, Jalaj Saxena, Utkarsh Singh, Fabian Allen, Saurabh Kumar Mohammed Azharuddeen The Royal Challengers Bangalore made a few good calls and buying Mohammed Azharuddeen at his base price of Rs 20 lakhs was one of them. Azharuddeen made headlines recently after notching up a stunning ton in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Kerala against Mumbai. He ended the tournament with a total tally of 214 runs in 5 matches. RCB full Sqaud: Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Devdutt Padikkal, Yuzvendra Chahal, Mohammed Siraj, Kane Richardson, Washington Sundar, Pavan Deshpande, Joshua Philippe, Shahbaz Ahamad, Navdeep Saini, Adam Zampa, Kyle Jamieson, Glenn Maxwell, Rajat Patidar, Sachin Baby, Mohammed Azharuddeen, Dan Christian, KS Bharat, Suyash Prabhudessai, Daniel Sams, Harshal Patel Ben Cutting Next in the list is Ben Cutting who was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for a base price of Rs 75 lakhs. Cutting had a decent run at the BBL 10 while playing for Sydney Thunder and can prove to be a brilliant pick in the IPL 2021. He has been a part of MI, RR and SRH camps in the IPL earlier. He was first bought by RR in 2014 while he then moved to SRH for the 2016-17 season before getting picked up by MI in the 2018-19 season. KKR Full Squad: Eoin Morgan, Andre Russell, Dinesh Karthik, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Kuldeep Yadav, Lockie Ferguson, Nitish Rana, Prasidh Krishna, Rinku Singh, Sandeep Warrier, Shivam Mavi, Shubman Gill, Sunil Narine, Pat Cummins, Rahul Tripathi, Varun Chakravarthy, Tim Seifert, Shakib Al Hasan, Sheldon Jackson, Harbhajan Singh, Ben Cutting, Venkatesh Iyer, Pawan Negi, Vaibhav Arora and Karun Nair. Umesh Yadav It would be a homecoming for the fast bowler Umesh Yadav after he was bought by Delhi Capitals for a base price of Rs 1 Cr. Initially, no one really showed much interest in the right-arm quick but Delhi franchise eventually got him. Yadav is probably one of the fastest bowlers in the country but his problem of leaking runs at high economy rate can prove costly. In 121 IPL matches that Umesh has played, he has picked up 119 wickets at an economy of over 8 and an average of 30.07. Umesh was earlier released by RCB ahead of the auctions. He has been a part of KKR, Delhi Daredevils and RCB in the previous editions.
