Player Bio

Hailing from a sporting family, Joe Weatherley is a product of the Hampshire academy and has captained the Hampshire age-group side throughout his teenage years.

A right-handed batsman, Weatherley can also chip in with useful off-break bowling. Born in Winchester, Weatherley made his first-class debut for Hampshire in 2016, but the runs dried up soon and he was sent to loan at Kent in 2017.

Hampshire team management sought him as a future leader for their club and his most productive year came in 2015 when the dashing batter slammed three centuries and three half-centuries for Hampshire second XI.

The Winchester-born returned back to Hampshire in 2018 and struck his maiden Championship ton against Lancashire.

He ended the 2018 Championship season on a high but suffered an ankle injury in 2019 that eventually ruled him out for the rest of the campaign.

Touted by Hampshire team management as the future of the Three Lions, Weatherley’s career was derailed because of an ankle injury in 2019. However, he roared back strongly and looked in great touch in the 2021 Championship campaign.
