Player Bio

Lizaad Williams is a South African cricketer who plays for the Cape Cobras and Boland. Williams, who bowls right-arm fast was signed up with a rookie contract for the 2012/13 season after displays for Boland in List A cricket. From the very beginning, the South African had a rare trait of clicking 140 that led his way for the Under-19 World Cup of 2012.

Williams was one of South Africa’s main men during the Junior WC, held in Australia, where the seamer bagged five wickets at 21.40.

After the WC, he was contracted by Boland to make his first class debut and did not fail to impress. He grabbed 24 wickets from 6 matches during the prestigious CSA Provincial Three-Day Competition. And then, became an integral part of the Cape Cobras in the Ram Slam T20s.

Post an early success, Williams couldn’t take the next step to graduate to the international stage, inconsistency became a pretty consistent factor for him ever since. However, it wasn’t until 2018-19 when Williams was booked by Boland for the Africa T20 Cup where the pacer took eight wickets at 9.12. He then played the inaugural edition of the Mzansi Super League for Nelson Mandela Bay Giants and then was transferred to Jozi Stars for the 2019 edition. Throughout the 2018-19 season, Williams sharpened his variations to earn a tag of T20 specialist.

Seeing his success, the national selectors awarded Williams and selected the pacer for the limited-overs series against Pakistan in 2021. The pacer made his T20I debut at Johannesburg but bowled ordinarily. He bettered his performance in the next game to register figures of 3 for 35 to help South Africa win the game in an easy manner. The T20 specialist ended the four-match series as South Africa’s highest wicket-taker.

Following the Pakistan series, Williamson was selected for the full-fledged tour of the West Indies, later in June. The team management would be placing high bets on the T20 specialist to become their dead-specialist during the World T20, to be held in the fag end of 2021.
